PC players struggling with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree can use an updated mod that tones down the DLC's difficulty levels. Having been released just last week, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has expectedly been very popular across all platforms, but some players found themselves turned off by the heightened difficulty of the expansion compared to the base game.

According to FromSoftware boss and game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, Shadow of the Erdtree was designed around the assumption that anyone playing it would've finished a substantial portion, if not all, of the base game, thereby being fairly proficient with its combat and overall difficulty. However, the Elden Ring DLC has still proven too difficult for many, with Shadow of the Erdtree receiving mixed reviews on Steam for this exact reason.

While it's no surprise that Shadow of the Erdtree's difficulty can be excruciating at times, as is the norm with FromSoftware's famously challenging games, some players may not enjoy it as much as others. Thankfully, an updated version of a popular difficulty adjustment mod offers a solution for PC users who find the Elden Ring DLC too hard. Dubbed Syyke's All In One Cheat Version, the mod's latest 1.12 version is now compatible with Shadow of the Erdtree, but those who opt to use it should note that it doesn't allow easy access to all in-game items for the DLC yet.

Updated Elden Ring Mod is Basically "Easy Mode" for Shadow of the Erdtree

Otherwise, the mod appears quite beneficial for those who don't want to spend hours attempting to defeat one boss, as it allows players to upgrade weapons and spirits without relying on any items, block attacks without depleting stamina, recover runes from anywhere, use a rune modifier, and even regain health over time. Combined with adjusted settings for armor, summoning areas, load carrying effects, buffs, and item/spell requirements, the mod is essentially an "easy mode" for the DLC, taking the challenge out of the equation and allowing users to explore Shadow of the Erdtree's immense world without worry.

Purists may argue that the inherent challenge of a FromSoftware game is a crucial part of the experience, a sentiment echoed by even Hidetaka Miyazaki, who believes that toning down Elden Ring's difficulty would "break the game itself." However, not everyone plays games to push their skills to the limit, and for those who are invested in the lore of FromSoftware titles but don't want to deal with the challenge, mods like these are a viable compromise. Console players, though, have no option but to get good at the games.
