The
Carian Thrusting Shield is a new Dueling Sheild added to the Elden Ring DLC. This new weapon type brings the element of offensive-natured shields. Players can still guard against damage but can now simultaneously attack with the same weapon they use to block.
This guide includes all the details on where to find the Carian Thrusting Shield and what players need to create a build around it in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Elden Ring: Best Obtainable Early Incantations
Incantations are a powerful kind of magic in Elden Ring, and these are the best ones that can be acquired early on in the game.
How To Obtain The Carian Thrusting Shield In Shadow Of The Erdtree
To obtain the
Carian Thrusting Shield Elden Ring, players must first make their way to the Shadow Keep Back Section Site of Grace. To access this area, you must travel to Moorth Ruins and go underground to the Bonny Village. Cross the bridges and proceed northeast to reach the Church District Entrance. You must scale the rooftops to reach a hole in a building you can drop down through. There will be an elevator soon after a few Fire Knights that leads to the Back Section. From this Grace, keep going west to find the shield at the end of the path.
Carian Thrusting Shield Stats & Scaling
Scales Primarily With Strength And Dexterity
The following are the stat requirements, as well as the scaling on a fully upgraded Carian Thrusting Shield:
|
Attribute |
Level |
Scaling (Max) |
|---|---|---|
|
Strength |
17 |
B |
|
Dexterity |
13 |
B |
|
Intelligence |
15 |
D |
All of the stat requirements are pretty low, and by the time you enter the Realm of Shadow, you should have a high enough level to allocate the points needed to equip the weapon. The weapon has B scaling on both Strength and Dexterity; this means the players can evenly put points in both attributes, increasing the weapon's overall damage. The shield also has a small amount of magic damage as attack power because of the Intelligence scaling. The weight required to carry this Dueling Shield is higher than Medium Shields but lower than most Greatshields.
Carian Thrusting Shield can be upgraded to +25 using Smithing Stones and Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
Best Talismans To Pair With Carian Thrusting Shield
When it comes to this build, there are some great options for the Talismans from which players can choose. As the build revolves around two-handing the weapon and blocking at times, the Two-Handed Sword and Greatshield Talisman would be perfect. This allows the players to have the comfort of blocking and taking little to no damage. The Two-Handed and the Spear Talisman are the primary forms of damage-increasing Talismans. Finally, as this build consumes a lot of Stamina with blocking and counterattacks, a Stamina recovery Talisman is a must, and that is where the Two-Headed Turtle Talisman comes in.

If you enjoy big damage numbers and punching enemies with rock powers, then Elden Ring's Golem Fists are the weapon for you.
Best Armor To Pair With Carian Thrusting Shield
When it comes to Armor, the best option is Rakshasa's Armor. Players can opt for a more defensive set, but that might lead to the Heavy Rolling, which is not advised for this build. Every piece of the Rakshasa Armor slightly increases the damage you deal to enemies. However, there is a negative effect, which is a decrease in damage negation. As blocking with the shield pretty much protects against all the damage, increasing the damage seems to be the wiser choice, and that is where this Armor Set comes into play.

Best Character Attribute Distribution For Carian Thrusting Shield
As the scaling on the weapon is the same for Strength and Dexterity, you can keep somewhat the same level on those Attributes. Endurance is a must because of the Stamina usage; meanwhile, you can keep the Mind a bit down because there is little use of FP. If you plan on using the Golden Vow Incantation, then you will need to increase Faith to 25 to use it, meaning the other Attributes will have to go down in levels slightly.
If you have additional points in some of the Attributes, you can Respec by going to
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. The process will require a Larval Tear, which you can acquire a certain amount for every playthrough.
You can drop down points from Dexterity and Strength, lowering the weapon's damage but accommodating your level.

Best Wondrous Flask Of Physick Combination For Carian Thrusting Shield
For the Wondrous Flask, players will need Stamina Recovery, which, combined with the Two-Headed Turtle Talisman, almost instantly replenishes your Stamina bar. As the Rakshasa Armor decreases your damage negation but is a must for the damage boost, you can equip the Opaline Hardtear, which should somewhat negate the debuff from the Armor. Both of these Crystal Tears can be acquired in Caelid in the base game, which means you can obtain them before you enter the DLC.

Flask Tear |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Obtained upon killing Putrid Avatar in Caelid. This tear increases stamina recovery by 15 per second for 3 minutes. |

How to Get to Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring DLC
Metyr, Mother of Fingers is an optional boss in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Her location is locked behind Count Ymir’s questline.
Best Incantations To Pair With Carian Thrusting Shield
As the build revolves around the Dueling Shield, having a few Supportive Incantations is best. The Golden Vow and the Flame, Grant me Strength, are both Incantations from the base game that increase your overall damage and damage negation, which can be useful.
|
Incantation |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Found on a corpse in the Corpse-Stench Shack on Mt. Gelmir. This Incantation increases your damage output by 15% and negates all damage by 10%. The buff lasts for 80 seconds. |
|
|
This is found behind Fort Gael, guarded by two flame chariots. This Incantation boosts your physical and fire damage output by 20%, and the buff lasts 30 seconds. |
Best Great Rune To Pair With Carian Thrusting Shield
For the Great Runes, you can go for any of the three listed in the table below. Choosing a Great Runes depends on your playstyle. Malenia's Great Rune favors an offensive approach, as you must attack immediately after getting hit; otherwise, you will not regain your lost health. Radahn's Great Rune increases your HP, FP, and Stamina, which can be very useful as the increase in Stamina allows you to perform an additional attack.
|
Great Rune |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Obtained upon defeating Godrick, the Grafted. Activating this Great Rune grants five flat levels across all of your attributes. |
|
|
Obtained upon defeating Malenia, Blade of Miquella. This Great Rune allows you to recover lost HP when attacking immediately after getting hit. |
|
|
Obtained upon defeating Starscourge Radahn. This Great Rune boosts your maximum HP, FP, and Stamina. |
Carian Thrusting Shield Buffing Routine & Attack Strategy
You must ensure you are always buffed to increase your overall damage. When you are about to fight a boss, it is best to do the following things right before entering the boss's gate.
- Consume the Wondrous Flask to increase Stamina Regeneration and increase the damage negation.
- Apply the Golden Vow incantation to boost damage output and negate damage to self.
- Apply Flame, Grant Me Strength incantation to increase damage output.
As the fight begins, your task is to get in as close as possible to the enemy. As you can guard against most attacks, keep a defensive approach and start attacking as soon as you see gaps in the enemy's attacks. Even though you can stick with the basic Ash of War, the
Ash of War: Giant Hunt is an excellent addition to this build because it can stagger enemies who do not have high Hyper Armor. With the Supportive Incantations, you can also output quite a lot of damage with your charged Heavy attacks.
If you are planning on using this for PvP, then you will need to mix it up with your charged Heavies and Ash of War so that the enemy player does not instantly get used to the timings of dodging your attacks.
