If there is one thing Elden Ring doesn't lack, it's items. From weapons to armor to ashes of war to consumables to unique items, a few hours of gameplay can fill up the inventory with literally hundreds of items with vague descriptions the game doesn't explain how to use. With Shadow of the Erdtree, that number has only increased.

One of the new items in SOTE that might confuse players is Thiollier's Concoction. Given to the Tarnished by an NPC in the Gravesite Plains, this item has a very niche use.

How to Use Thiollier's Concoction

Thiollier's Concoction can be used on the Dragon Priestess at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion at night to get an alternate ending for her questline. If you give the Priestess Thioller's Concoction before defeating Bayle the Dread, it will put her to sleep. Climb the Jagged Peak, defeat Bayle with Igon's help, and then return to the Priestess. She will have woken up and, after a bit of dialogue, will reveal that she has chosen to follow the player instead of the Dragon Lord and will give the following rewards:

The Priestess can only be drugged with Thiollier's Concoction at night. If you're talking to her and the prompt for giving her the Concoction doesn't come up, wait at the nearby Site of Grace until nightfall and talk to her again.

To get the other ending of this questline, defeat Bayle without giving Thiollier's Concoction to the Priestess. Return to the Grand Altar to find the Priestess Heart (used to transform into a Dragon) and the Flowerstone Gavel (an arcane-scaling weapon).

Drinking the Thiollier's Concoction yourself will result in immediate death. It can be used in PvP scenarios.

How to Get More Thiollier's Concoctions

The first time players can get their hands on Thiollier's Concoction is when they give him the Black Syrup obtained from Moore and choose the 'I'm weary of life' dialogue when prompted. Moore can be found at the Main Gate Site of Grace, and Thiollier is located at the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace, east of Castle Ensis. This exchange needs to happen before you burn the Sealing Tree and advance the main story. Otherwise, Thiollier's quest will fail, and players will be locked out of obtaining the concoction.

The first dose is part of the storyline, and it may appear that this is a one-off item, but that is not the case. It is possible to buy more Thiollier's Concoctions. Here's how:

  • Purchaseable from Thiollier at the Pillar Path Cross Site of Grace for 30,000 Runes a bottle after he gives you the first bottle.
  • Purchaseable from the Twin Maiden Husks for 30,000 Runes after offering Moore's Bell Bearing.
