While incantations see a lot more favor than sorceries in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree, it doesn't mean incumbent mages have nothing to look forward to. The few sorceries that have been added to the DLC are not half bad, but the new staves really steal the spotlight.

In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Maternal Staff is a new weapon of the Glintstone Staff weapon type. With its innate ability to boost finger sorceries by 8%, it is most suited for casting finger spells; however, it is also a decent option for casting Arcane spells.

Having said that, in most cases, the Albinauric Staff still outshines the Maternal Staff if you're going for a split Int/Arc build, and the Carian Regal Scepter is better in every way for pure sorcery builds.

The Maternal Staff can be upgraded using Smithing Stones to +25, and cannot benefit from spell-based or consumable weapon buffs.

Elden Ring - Shadow Of The Erdtree - Path To Cathedral Of Manus Metyr and Count Ymir

The Maternal Staff is a reward for completing Count Ymir's questline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Here are all the steps players need to take to get this item.

  • Talk to Count Ymir in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in Scadu Altus (accessible through Bonny Village). He'll give you the Ruins Map.
  • Ring the bell in Finger Ruins of Rhia (path through the Cerulean Coast).
  • Return to Count Ymir and receive the Ruins Map (2nd).
  • Ring the bell in Finger Ruins of Dheo (path through the Tree Worship Passage under the Shadow Keep).
  • Return to Count Ymir and receive the Ruins Map (3rd).
  • Ring the bell in Finger Ruins of Miyr (found underneath Ymir's throne).
  • Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers.
  • Defeat Sword of Night, Jolan.
  • Defeat Count Ymir.

Players can obtain the Sword of Night (Jolan's weapon) and Claws of Night (new claw weapon) during this questline.
