In Elden Ring's DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, below the massive Legacy Dungeon Shadow Keep lies a flooded district home to deadly creatures and pestering crabs. Accessing the lower section of Shadow Keep requires the player to take a long route, which starts from the Moorth Ruins. Players can come face to face with a powerful boss upon reaching the back side of the Keep. The water level in the Church District does not matter. Raised or lower, players can still reach Commander Gaius by following the steps shown below.

How To Reach Shadow Keep, Church District
To reach the Shadow Keep Church District, players must make their way to the Moorth Ruins, located in Scadu Altus. From the Ruins, head forward to drop down into a chasm, and make your way to a ladder that leads to Elden Ring's Bonny Village. Follow the path to the northeast to cross a few bridges, which lead to the Bridge leading to the Village Site of Grace. Keep following the main path north, and soon you will reach the Shadow Keep.
How To Get To Commander Gaius
From the Church District Entrance Site of Grace, jump onto the roof up ahead and head left, making your way to the other side of the roof. There will be a part of the roof sticking out, which you can use to jump across to reach the rock platform to the northwest. Carefully walk around the edge part, making your way to the right of the wall above. As you jump to the ledge, head left and jump again to land on another roof. A Red Knight here will constantly cast ranged Fire attacks at you, so it is best to deal with him first.
Head south of the roof to spot a railing that you can jump on that connects to the building up ahead. Go to the top, jump down onto the stone arch, and jump ahead to reach a room with a patrolling Red Knight. You can ignore this Red Knight and head forward until you come across another Red Knight. This will be the indication to turn left and follow the path leading to an elevator. The elevator goes up to Specimen Storehouse inside the Shadow Keep.

Where To Go After Reaching the Specimen Storehouse
From the Specimen Storehouse, turn left, and you can interact with a Lost Grace. Keep going straight to reach a ladder that you can climb to reach a room with a Red Knight facing backward in front of you. Head right up the staircase and take a right in between the bookshelves to spot a hole in the wall. Jump through this hole and follow the wooden platform to the right, eventually reaching Storehouse Loft Site of Grace. To the right of the Grace is a lift you must take to reach the upper section of the Shadow Keep.
As soon as the lift stops, take a left, another left, and a right to reach a ladder they can climb up. Head right and deal with the Bat directly in front of you. Jump to the right beam, but be careful not to fall, as the drop is quite big. Straight ahead is a ladder that you can climb down and head right to reach another ladder. There will be a doorway to the northwest that you can go through and spot a lift on the right side. Going down the lift will take you to an elevator that leads to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate Site of Grace. Just ahead of this gate is the boss gate for Commander Gaius.
