In every Soulsborne game, there has always been a great variety of weapons and special weapon skills that allow players to decimate large packs of enemies and force bosses to their knees. However, some of FromSoftware's works offer better options than others. Elden Ring is, without a shadow of a doubt, the title that has pulled off special weapon skills best, as it has also introduced the famous Ashes of War.

Shadow of the Erdtree has doubled down the base game's great Ash of War selection, introducing new ones for players to take advantage of during combat. However, even among the greats, there are differences. While some Ashes of War in the DLC are completely broken, others will barely scratch enemies in the Lands of Shadow. Here are the new best Ashes of War in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Here's a guide to finding all the Ashes of War in Elden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.

7 Swift Slash

A Quick Succession Of Attacks

elden ring shadow of the erdtree dlc character in front of fire

How To Get

Reward for siding with Hornsent in her fight against Leda at the Shadow Keep.

FP Cost

16

This new Ash of War from Shadow of the Erdtree provides the Keen affinity to any weapon it's applied to. It also allows players to use the Swift Slash Special Skill. Passed down among hornsent swordsmen, Swift Slash lets its user take a fast step forward while slicing through enemies like butter. When charged for a long time, the skill gets stronger and the distance traversed becomes greater.

This Ash of War can be obtained by siding with Hornsent Grandam in her fight against Leda in the Shadow Keep. Players must be wary, as starting the fight with Messmer the Impaler will lock this Ash of War and render it unobtainable until NG+. Swift Slash is ideal for players with Dexterity builds who like quick moves and dashing through enemies.

6 Flame Skewer

An Aggressive Lunge Forward With A Fiery Combo

How To Get

Obtained by defeating the NPC Invader Fire Knight Queelign twice.

FP Cost

18 for the first attack, and 8 for the strong attack follow-up.

This Ash of War grants the Flame Art to any armament it's infused with. The Flame Skewer works as a long thrusting movement that can deal considerable damage to enemies and cover them in vicious flames. To acquire the Flame Skewer, players will have to defeat the NPC Invader Fire Knight Queelign twice.

Elden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, added even more NPC Invaders to the game. Here's where to find them all in SOTE.

By

This Ash of War is great for players who rely on Fire builds and like long-range special skills. While the initial thrust costs 18 FP, the subsequent attack only costs 8, making it a very efficient method of dealing with tough NPCs. It should be noted, though, that this new Ash of War from Shadow of the Erdtree can only be applied to medium and large weapons (including shields) that are capable of thrusting.

5 Savage Lion's Claw

Multiple Slashes That Deal Insane Damage

Ash of War_ Savage Lion's Claw Information in Shadow of the Erdtree

How To Get

Found in a small campsite near the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace.

FP Cost

20, and an extra 10 for each additional strike.

The Savage Lion's Claw has many great things about it. For starters, it imbues any weapon that has it with the Heavy affinity and the Savage Lion's Claw Special Skill. As opposed to other Ashes of War on this list, obtaining the Savage Lion's Claw does not require players to defeat an enemy, but rather to do some exploration.

The nearest Site of Grace to this Ash of War is the Three-Path Cross. Once players spawn there, they must follow the wall on their left and head north until they reach a campsite where they'll find the Savage Lion's Claw. It can be used on Swords, Axes, and Hammers; however, smaller weapons and thrusting armaments are not included. This Ash of War's FP consumption isn't terrible, but it isn't great either. It requires 20 FP for the initial strike, and an additional 10 for a follow-up.

4 Dryleaf Whirlwind

Ideal For Elemental Damage Buildup

3 Dryleaf Whirlwind Information in Shadow of the Erdtree

How To Get

Found near a waterfall close to the Viaduct Minor Tower Site of Grace.

FP Cost

9

The Dryleaf Whirlwind provides the Standard affinity for the weapons it infuses, as well as the Dryleaf Whirlwind Special Skill. This Ash of War can be used on any Hand-To-Hand Arts weapons, as long as they don't forbid skill replacement. This Ash of War's skill cost is rather low, as it only takes 9 FP per move, which is considerably better than that of previous entries.

Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree: 12 Best New Dexterity Weapons, Ranked

Shadow of the Erdtree introduced plenty of new weapons into Elden Ring, and these are the best for any Dexterity build.

Similar to the Savage Lion's Claw, this Ash of War requires exploration to obtain. The closest Site of Grace is the Viaduct Minor Tower. Players will have to traverse a great distance and avoid a few jar-tossing enemies to reach a waterfall's edge, where they'll find the Dryleaf Whirlwind. This Ash of War is outstanding for elemental damage builds, as each one of its multiple hits contributes to build up. That said, the one disadvantage of the Dryleaf Whirlwind is that it requires close combat, putting players at risk of sustaining damage.

2 Spinning Gravity Thrust

Outstanding For Colossal Sword Users

ash of war spinning gravity thrust in elden ring shadow of the erdtree

How To Get

Obtained by giving the Remembrance of the Wild Boar Rider to Enia the Finger Reader.

FP Cost

26

Infusing weapons with the Heavy affinity, the Spinning Gravity Thrust Ash of War is one of the best introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree. It allows players to use its Special Skill, "Spinning Gravity Thrust," to lunge forward in the air while spinning viciously. With this, enormous damage can be dealt, especially with a high Strength Stat and a Colossal Sword.

The Spinning Gravity Thrust can be obtained by giving the Remembrance of the Wild Boar Rider to Enia the Finger Reader at the Roundtable Hold. Unfortunately, this Ash of War is not efficient at all, as it costs 26 FP to use. However, it can work wonderfully as a spinning drill to decimate enemies and melt boss Health bars in an instant.

1 Rolling Sparks

Impressive AoE, Even Post-Nerfing

elden-ring-shadow-of-the-erdtree_rolling-sparks-flame

How To Get

Looted from a flying scarab on the eastern side of the camp south of the Shadow Keep

FP Cost

14

Rolling Sparks has got to be the most broken Ash of War in Shadow of the Erdtree. Upon release, many DLC players noticed that they could one-shot several bosses simply by using this Ash of War inside the various perfume bottles available in the Lands of Shadow. Apparently, this happened due to a bug that boosted the Ash of War's damage accidentally. However, even after nerfing, it's still a force to be reckoned with.

This Ash of War can be obtained by looting a flying scarab on the eastern side of the camp south of the Shadow Keep. Rolling Sparks provide the Standard affinity and cost 14 FP to use. Not too shabby considering, that it's a weapon of mass destruction.
