A bizarre glitch allowed an Elden Ring player to finally defeat Malenia after over 100 attempts. Many consider Malenia to be the most challenging foe in Elden Ring, with the boss requiring players to utilize a wide range of skills in order to take her down. After trying for many hours, one player reached Malenia's second phase, only to finish her off due to an unexpected glitch.
Elden Ring was released in 2022 after years of development and quickly became a generation-defining title. Commended for its visual style, satisfying gameplay, and unbelievably detailed open world, the game became both a critical and commercial success, with Elden Ring going on to sell close to 25 million copies. Elden Ring features hundreds of hours of content, ranging from thrilling and difficult boss fights to immersive and satisfying quests, as well as multiple endings. The game is tough, with Elden Ring featuring an intimidating gauntlet of foes and bosses.
Malenia is a common struggling point for Elden Ring players, with many considering her to be one of video gaming's toughest foes. However, Reddit user Wispppppp recently shared that they won against Malenia only after encountering a battle-breaking glitch. A video of the encounter was shared with the game's community, revealing the player was using a Mimic Tear to help during the fight. The player managed to take down most of Malenia's health during her first phase, cornering her against the boss arena. However, as soon as the player engaged in a critical strike, the Mimic Tear attacked, causing Malenia to enter her second phase before the player could strike.
Elden Ring Glitch Disrupts Malenia Fight
Despite Malenia entering her second phase, her health bar did not reset. The player was still mid-critical strike, with the blow proving to be more than enough to defeat her. A moment of confusion followed as the player was granted runes for vanquishing Malenia. While the player managed to finally kill her, they stated that this victory against Malenia felt unearned. "It was like a knife in the heart," says the player, "A victory without any of the effort." A similar glitch was discovered last year, with Elden Ring players uncovering another easy way to defeat Malenia during her phase transition.
FromSoftware is gearing up for the release of the first official expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree.
