Solo gameplay in Elden Ring Nightreign is set for some fast-approaching improvements after its lackluster experience has resulted in less-than-stellar initial review scores. FromSoftware has plans for an Elden Ring Nightreign update that is aimed specifically at improving the single-player experience, but there's no set date for its implementation.
Released in 2022 as an open-world spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series, 2022's Elden Ring became FromSoftware's best-selling game of all time and captured multiple accolades, including winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards. The new roguelike action-RPG prequel to Elden Ring has carried high expectations from fans leading up to its launch on May 30. Excitement surrounding the game is evident by Elden Ring Nightreign's launch-day player count on Steam, which saw in excess of 300,000 concurrent players diving into the game within the first couple of hours of its availability.
Best Ways to Talk to Other Players in Elden Ring Nightreign
Beating a run in Elden Ring Nightreign requires a lot of communication. Here are the best ways to talk to other players.
But despite its initial boom in player activity, Steam user reviews for Elden Ring Nightreign are mixed, with more than one-third of the more than 12,000 reviews that have poured in over its first 20 hours being negative. The single-player experience has been one of the most criticized aspects of the new game, and FromSoftware has responded quickly, promising that Patch 1.02 is already being worked on and will be aimed at improvements for solo expeditions, in addition to some bug fixes. Planned improvements include an Automatic Revival Upon Defeat mechanic, which will be usable once per boss battle during solo play, and an increase in the amount of runes gained. Not much more information is being released at this time, including when the patch will arrive, but FromSoftware indicates that further updates regarding the upcoming patch will be made available during the first week of June.
Elden Ring Nightreign is Trying to Fix Single-Player Gameplay
The single-player experience isn't the only issue that players are having with the new game. Many negative Steam reviews also complain about unbalanced character classes in Elden Ring Nightreign, with classes like Executor and Raider seemingly needing major buffs and new abilities to keep up with much more powerful classes like Duchess. Even in co-op play, fans are lamenting the difficult experience of communicating with teammates, as the lack of a voice chat function is hampering strategic battle plans.
Many are also complaining that the game does not currently support two-player teams. A modder has shown duos are possible in Elden Ring Nightreign through a gameplay video released on YouTube, yet the vanilla game currently only allows players to take on the world in teams of three or in solo play. Many fans who have seen this video, in which the game appears to be functioning well with just two players present, have raised questions about why FromSoftware hasn't included a duos option at launch.
