Elden Ring Nightreign Puts a Limit on How Many Relics You…

FromSoftware's latest title, Elden Ring Nightreign, won't let players begin an expedition if they own too many relics. A three-player co-op spinoff of 2022's mega-hit Elden Ring, FromSoftware's Elden Ring Nightreign launched just a few weeks ago. The spinoff drops three players in an alternate version of Elden Ring's starting area, Limveld, where they need to quickly level up over the course of two in-game days before squaring off against one of the game's challenging Night Lord bosses.

Each time players finish an expedition, either by dying or surviving to defeat the Night Lord, they're awarded anywhere from around two to six new relics as part of the expedition's final reward. These are permanent items that come with specific buffs when equipped on a character, like adding points to attributes, base stats, or even different types of effects to weapons. Some of these relics offer bonuses that are exclusive to one of Elden Ring Nightreign's eight playable Nightfarers, as they have to do with their unique special abilities. As players complete more and more expeditions, their inventory of relics may begin piling up and can become a headache to sort through if they don't keep on top of them.

It turns out that Elden Ring Nightreign won't allow players to queue up for an expedition if they own too many relics. Reddit user Scufozzover1 posted a screenshot of an in-game message telling them that they've essentially hit the relic cap and can't begin an expedition. The dimmed expedition menu behind the message shows they've bested nearly every Night Lord in the game, so it's no wonder they have so many relics. This relic cap number seems to remain a mystery, though one fan suggests the likelihood of it being 999, as is the typical item cap in FromSoftware's Souls games.

Thankfully, as Scufozzover1's in-game message encourages, relics can be sold in exchange for Elden Ring Nightreign's Murk currency, which can be used at the Small Jar Bazaar shop in the Roundtable Hold to purchase emotes, character goblets, and even more relics. It can be a challenge for players who like to hold on to relics they're not currently making use of with the possibility of needing them for future character builds in mind. However, with a hidden relic cap at play, perhaps these relics were meant to be more disposable than they initially seemed. It may be best for players who have their relic inventory flooded with unused relics to begin cleaning house sooner rather than later. There's a big bundle of Murk waiting for them if they do.

Elden Ring Nightreign has only just gotten started, and fans should expect more playable Nightfarers, bosses, and perhaps even more types of relics to be added to the game down the line. Maybe FromSoftware will raise the relic limit in the future, or at least divulge what the official relic cap number is so that players can better know when it's time to start selling them off to avoid getting locked out of expeditions.
