An Elden Ring Nightreign fan has shared an interesting gameplay video showing what the game would look like if it allowed duos. Not long after the game's release, a YouTube channel named Yui posted a video showcasing their unique experience of playing with just one additional player via a mod. The creator clarified that since the modification runs without connecting to the matchmaking server, it’s possible to use additional mods during gameplay. The video shows the player starting Nightreign's Tricephalos expedition, which takes them to the character selection screen. After choosing their characters, the cutscene that follows shows only two Nightfarers being carried by Spectral Hawks. Even though the cutscene displays three Hawks, only two are shown carrying characters. At the end of the flight, the two Nightfarers are dropped to the ground, and everything appears to be working fine.

Elden Ring Nightreign Players May See Duo Co-op Added in the Future

Many replies in the comment section claim that the fact a modder managed to make duos work means it shouldn't be too difficult for FromSoftware to implement the same feature. The lack of a duo mode has been one of the main complaints since release, with many players saying they won’t play until either an official duo mode is added or mods become more stable. Fortunately, the studio previously stated that it was considering a two-player option for Elden Ring Nightreign post-launch, admitting that it was something overlooked during development.

It’s easy to assume the game’s combat and scaling were designed around a three-player co-op, which is why Elden Ring’s official Twitter account confirmed that Patch 1.02 will include improvements for solo expeditions. The new update will add the “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” feature, which allows players to revive once per night, a feature currently missing from solo mode in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Elden Ring Nightreign has already received a day-one patch addressing character handling, damage balancing, bug fixes, and potential FPS issues for PC players. Many fans are confident that FromSoftware will eventually add a duo mode, viewing its absence as a massive missed opportunity that can be corrected relatively easily. However, there’s a chance this addition might take some time, as the studio may currently be focused on balancing the two existing modes.
