FromSoftware has announced that the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign update, introducing the long-awaited Duo Expeditions mode, will be delayed until July 31. The studio decided to postpone the Elden Ring Nightreign patch release due to tsunami warnings in Japan.
Elden Ring Nightreign Adding Highly Requested Game Mode
After announcing a major sales milestone, Elden Ring Nightreign also confirms plans for future content including one highly requested mode.
Following massive player demand, FromSoftware finally announced Elden Ring Nightreign’s Duo Expeditions for July 30—though that has now changed. Due to the unfortunate situation that occurred near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, where a massive earthquake hit the region, Japan issued an evacuation order for almost 2 million people. In light of what happened, FromSoftware decided to postpone Nightreign’s patch 1.02.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s Duo Expeditions Update Delayed to July 31
Nevertheless, players won’t have to wait too long, as Elden Ring Nightreign’s official duos mode has only been delayed by one day, now releasing on July 31. On top of this, the studio has also informed players about the delay of the second cycle of Everdark Sovereign, which will now be rolled out after patch 1.02.
Nightreign’s new update won’t just add duos mode plainly—it will also introduce some quality-of-life UI improvements, like more Relic filtering options, to better balance the experience for only two players. However, more details will be revealed upon the update’s release. This new mode will likely help the game’s popularity, which hasn’t been particularly high in comparison to both the Elden Ring base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. In fact, Elden Ring Nightreign’s player count is now significantly lower than its all-time peak.
Again, it’s true that—even with the initial discomfort players had with the game—Nightreign still has a positive rating. As FromSoftware continues refining the game based on player feedback, it’s unclear whether Nightreign will ever manage to earn reviews as high as the original Elden Ring.
