Elden Ring allows users to engage in both competitive and cooperative multiplayer. It functions similarly to FromSoftware’s previous titles and likely contributes to their longevity. Some gamers are still playing various Souls games online years after release, and it’s fair to expect the same from Elden Ring’s community.

Since its release, Elden Ring players have used various clever tricks and strategies to kill the host. Their tactics don’t work all the time, but players often share videos of their memorable kills if they manage to pull off the strategy perfectly. One such video features an Elden Ring player easily killing hosts by disguising themselves in a dungeon.

A Reddit user named LordTexugo shares a montage of their kills. They use the Mimic's Veil item to disguise themselves as an object and wait for the host to climb a nearby ladder. As soon the host starts climbing, LordTexugo hits them from below, defeating them in one attack. LordTexugo disguises themselves as a statue in the first clip but switches to a candle for the rest of the video. The invader waves at their opponents after each kill, teasing them for not seeing through their disguise.

Due to the narrow playable area and linear design, Elden Ring Catacombs are perfect for users to try out this strategy. LordTexugo chose the Stormfoot Catacombs for the purpose of this video, although it looks like this tactic is viable next to any ladder. Additionally, LordTexugo uses a weapon skill called Giant Hunt to strike upwards with such force. This skill seems key for the tactic to work effectively, and players can acquire it after defeating the Night’s Cavalry boss in north Liurnia.

The Mimic's Veil is a popular item for Elden Ring PvP, and players can find it in a chest inside Stormveil Castle. It should be noted that invaders see a compass marker for the host until they get close to the target, but hosts don’t have the same functionality to get a general idea about the invader’s location.

While some Elden Ring players used ladders to troll others, this video shows their usefulness in PvP. The comments on this post are mostly filled with references to an Elden Ring joke that gained popularity via the game’s messages system. A few players also share their surprise at the host not noticing an Imp Statue randomly placed next to a ladder in the first clip. Disguising themselves as a candle, on the other hand, seems more suitable, although there is always a risk of enemies rolling into them.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
