How To Get To Messmer The Impaler In Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

To reach Messmer the Impaler, you must reach the Legacy Dungeon Shadow Keep in Scadu Altus. This is the second main area of the game that is accessible after defeating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight. From the Shadow Keep Main Gate Site of Grace, head straight, defeat the Golden Hippopotamus boss, and proceed left, going through the doorway.

Countless Messmer Soldiers and Black Knights are patrolling the lower level of Shadow Keep.

Be careful of corners where these enemies are waiting to ambush you.

Go up the staircase on the right and up the other staircase to reach the dining hall. Run past the knight and make your way through the doorway on the left to get to the courtyard. Head left to spot a Red Knight guarding the elevator, which takes you up to the next Site of Grace.

From the First Floor Storehouse Grace, head left and straight into the library. Go up the staircase, take the first left, and then take the second right up another staircase. There should be one more staircase in front of you that takes you up to a Red Knight. Ignore this enemy, head to the left to cross the bridge, and jump up the hanging statue. Once on the other side of the statue, you can interact with another Lost Grace and a few Scadutree Fragments.

Activating the Lever

Proceed straight, then head left to the staircase leading up to the Red Knight. Going past the Red Knight, you will encounter a few bats you can ignore. Head to the left, then turn right to proceed further along this floor. Go up the staircase at the end of the path, but do not go all the way to the top of the stairs; instead, head to the right of it to find a lever at the end of this path.

Interact with the lever, and a beam will rise to the southwest that you can jump and cross. Walk along the statue and jump to reach a room with the Statue of Marika statue.

Go right and up the staircase to find a Red Knight on the bridge on the left. You can deal with him to acquire the Ash of War: Flame Spear, then open the door ahead, which leads to a Site of Grace right before the boss gate for Messmer the Impaler.
