In Elden Ring, helmets offer more than just protection. Some helmets also grant you special attribute boosts and status buffs when equipped. Similarly, the Black Dumpling helmet is geared towards players who enjoy the maddening effects of the Frenzied Flame Seal.

You gain a temporary buff for all attack types when suffering from the Madness status effect while wearing the Black Dumpling helmet. Now, with the new talismans introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, you can stack them with the Black Dumpling helm to take your Madness builds to the next level. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree adds 39 new Talismans for players to use in their builds. Here's how to find them all.

Updated on October 9, 2024, by Mehrdad Khayyat: There is a saddening story behind the Black Dumpling helmet in Elden Ring, as it reveals the pain and tortures that Albinaurics have suffered from once Rykard decides to run some insane experimental on them. However, the helmet comes with a special passive feature.

This helmet doesn't really look fancy and it also doesn't have other parts like body armor, however, it can be quite useful against enemies that deal Madness damage to the player, as the wearer of Black Dumpling gains an additional stat boost when inflicted by Madness. This guide was updated with two videos to showcase the best locations of farming the helmet in two different regions.

Where To Find Black Dumpling In Elden Ring

Elden Ring - Black Dumpling Helmet

You can find the Black Dumpling helmets from the first-generation Albinaurics, found in Volcano Manor and Leyndell. You can easily identify these enemies by their unique helmets, which look like a black cloth covering their faces.

Finding The Black Dumpling In Volcano Manor

Begin by exploring the Volcano Manor, and discovering the Guest Hall Site of Grace, located in the southwestern region of the manor. Exit the hall using the northwestern door to find a first-generation Albinauric. Using the southern corridor, you can enter another large area where you can farm about five additional Albinaurics for the helmet.

In case you have not unlocked the Guest Hall Site of Grace, start from the Volcano Manor's checkpoint next to Tanith. Head inside the first painting room on the right. Now, move towards the wall in the right corner of the room and touch it. This is an illusionary wall, and behind it, there is a path to lead you to Prison Church. Follow the path to the left and head downstairs after the first iron gate. Hug the right wall after the second iron gate and at the end of the corridor take another left to find the Prison Church site of Grace.

Elden Ring - Black Dumpling Helmet Farming Location - 2

Exit the church and turn right. Now, follow the rooftops towards the bridge that can be spotted from afar. Once you are on the bridge, head straight, and when you reach the worm-like enemy, turn left and follow the rooftops again to reach the balcony of the building. There should be a side door on the right to let you in.

Take a left inside the building and head downstairs. Now make your way through the narrow balcony and you will find the Guest Hall site of grace in the first room on the right after exiting the corridor.

Finding The Black Dumpling In Leyndell

A group of first-generation Albinaurics can also be found in Leyndell, Royal Capital. Start by exploring the dungeons, and discovering the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace. Begin from the Site of Grace, and use the northwestern stairs to reach a bridge guarded by a soldier of Leyndell.

Elden Ring - Black Dumpling Farming Location -1

Head south and jump over the bridge to find yourself in a ruined area where you can find about five first-generation Albinaurics. It’s important to note that the Black Dumpling helmet has a very low drop late, so it’s advised that your discovery is at least 100, and you’re wearing the Silver Tear Mask while farming the equipment.

Black Dumping Overview

Elden Ring - Black Dumpling Helmet Stats

Mask forced on a victim's head to lend torture an extra degree of cruelty. It magnifies one's fears and makes them acutely aware of all forms of pain.

Raises attack power when the wearer suffers from madness. When the Black Dumpling goes on, the torturer no longer seeks answers; only to inflict suffering without hope of relief.

The Black Dumpling helmet is an individual piece and does not belong to any set. Suffering Madness while wearing the Black Dumpling helmet increases the damage output of all your attacks by 10% for 60 seconds.

If you’re trying to put together a high-damage build, the Black Dumpling helm can come in handy. You can intentionally build up Madness and suffer the madness status effect using spells like Howl of Shabriri or using an item like the Frenzyflame Stone. Pairing the Black Dumpling helm with the Aged One’s Exultation talisman can be very powerful, as the talisman increases your attack power by 20% when Madness is inflicted in your vicinity.

The status buff persists even if you remove the Black Dumpling helmet and replace it with another.
