An Elden Ring player has taken matters into their own hands by creating concept art for the demigod Godwyn the Golden as a boss. Fans were disappointed the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC failed to expand on the ill-fated character. FromSoftware’s Elden Ring expansion was released in June 2024 and allowed players to explore the Land of Shadow with new bosses, weapons, spells, and lore revolving around the Tarnished’s pursuit of Miquella.

Released in 2022, the base game takes place in The Lands Between, offering rich worldbuilding created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. Elden Ring’s epic boss fights have become a staple in the Soulslike genre, alongside the game’s dark fantasy aesthetic and notorious difficulty. Furthermore, the ability to free roam through Elden Ring’s open world without being led by the hand adds to the game’s challenge.

Posted on Reddit by Ensospag, various concept art sketches of Godwyn as a Shadow of the Erdtree boss were shared with the Elden Ring community. Detailed composites showcased the character’s blue and gold armor, his swordspear weapon charged with the Golden Lightning Axe skill, and several descriptions outlining the proposed boss’ crown and incantation. Elden Ring fans thought Godwyn would play a big role in the DLC before its summer release, but this was not the case. The community had also hoped Godwyn would serve as Shadow of the Erdtree’s final boss instead of Promised Consort Radahn, which is why the Redditor's concept art is being so well received.

The son of Queen Marika the Eternal and Godfrey, First Elden Lord, Godwyn was slain by the Black Knife Assassins on the Night of Black Knives, and fans are itching to see more of the demigod in gameplay after seeing the concept art. The Reddit community praised the player’s great artistry and commended the parallels made to the Nameless King. Additionally, one comment labeled Godwyn’s concept outfit the most fashionable armor in the game, while other Reddit users admitted they would pay for a “10-phase Godwyn boss” DLC.

The Soulslike community is hopeful Elden Ring will receive a second expansion, and fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Godwyn will play a bigger part in it.
