In Elden Ring, secret locations aren't available easily, and to get to one of the most awe-inspiring areas of the game you'll eventually have to make your way to Castle Sol. In Castle Sol, Elden Ring players can find the second half of the Haligtree medallion, the
Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right), which when combined with the
Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left) grants access to the Consecrated Snowfields via the Grand Lift of Rold.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – Release Date & Launch Time
The Elden Ring DLC is almost here – check this guide to find out when Shadow of the Erdtree launches, depending on your time zone (and platform).
Castle Sol is not an easy place to reach, buried deep in the often labyrinthian Mountaintops of Giants. This guide explains how to get to Castle Sol, and highlights its location so players can more easily find their way themselves. If all else fails, consult the Castle Sol location video, which leads players from a specific Site of Grace to Castle Sol.
Elden Ring: Castle Sol Location
Found late in the game in Elden Ring,
Castle Sol is located in the far north of the
Mountaintops of the Giants. If you look on the map after picking up the Mountaintops of Giants Map Fragment, you should see its sprawling complex on the far northwest side of this area.
It's not very visible from anywhere in the Mountaintops, and that's partly because Castle Sol's purpose was possibly meant to be hidden. In fact, to get to Castle Sol, you'll have to take a winding path that leads around two other Sites of Grace and leads the Tarnished around most of the northern half of this area.
How To Get To Castle Sol
To get to Castle Sol, you will first have to unlock the Mountaintops of Giants. This area is only accessible once you have acquired two Great Runes, and finished the
Leyndell, Royal Capital legacy dungeon by defeating
Morgott, the Omen King. After attempting to enter the Erdtree, Melina provides the Tarnished with the
Rold Medallion, which unlocks an elevator hidden in the Forbidden Lands.
Elden Ring: What To Do Before Shadow of the Erdtree
Though the only requirement to access SOTE is to defeat two bosses, there are a lot of things players can do to prepare for the new Elden Ring DLC.
After taking the elevator, follow the relatively linear path through the Mountaintops of Giants until you reach the Ancient Snow Valley Ruins. This Site of Grace is located underneath a large bridge (where
Brother Corhyn and
Goldmask's quest continues) just past the ridge that connects the south and north landmasses in the area.
From here, head northeast toward the Freezing Lake, and activate the Site of Grace on its northwestern shore. Follow the path from the Freezing Lake Site of Grace northeast, then sharply turn west and continue upward toward a large graveyard.
Ride past the undead, heading southwest, until you reach the Snow Valley Ruins Overlook Site of Grace. From here, head directly west, and keep an eye on your position on the map. Once you get close to the western border of the mountaintops, sharply turn northeast and descend down the ledges until you can see a Wandering Mausoleum in the distance.
Ride past this to find Castle Sol and a convenient Site of Grace right outside its front entrance.
