Because of The Game Awards, Elden Ring is back to dominating gaming conversations (not that it ever truly stopped), but it seems FromSoftware wanted to give fans another reason to discuss it with the upcoming Colosseum update. Many fans have been eager for Elden Ring's Colosseums to open, ever since they were found, and FromSoftware is doing just that on December 7.
FromSoftware has released a new trailer for Elden Ring that highlights combat within these Colosseums. The PVP community has long been active—in fact, Elden Ring's PVP has certain unwritten rules many players follow—and now they'll be able to participate in PVP another way.
Once Elden Ring's December 7 update is live, the Colosseums of Limgrave, Lyndell, and Caelid will open their gates for players. FromSoftware has obviously left some mystery to these, but it has also confirmed players can take part in duels, free-for-alls, and team fights. Free-for-all PVP with Elden Ring sounds like the perfect sort of chaos to throw into the mix. And the best part is that some believed the Colosseums would be paid DLC; it's not. The Colosseum update is free for everyone.
Of course, that doesn't mean premium Elden Ring DLC isn't on the way. It's interesting that this update is releasing the day before The Game Awards take place, especially because many fans are hoping to see a DLC announcement at the show. It could be that it's not there, or it could be that this is just an appetizer for a major announcement at The Game Awards. For now, fans will just have to wait and see what comes out of the show.
No matter what, Elden Ring will have a heavy presence at The Game Awards. Elden Ring has seven nominations, including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, and Best RPG. Its stiffest competition is God of War Ragnarok, which received a total of ten nominations (three more than Elden Ring), but it'll be interesting to see which game walks away with more awards and, perhaps where the competition is hottest, which one walks away with the coveted Game of the Year award.
Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
