In the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, the tarnished get to explore the realm of shadows. With stunning visuals, an incredible amount of added content, and even more lore to uncover, the DLC has exceeded the expectations of most of the player base.

Secret quests are a staple of the game, and it's not a surprise that there are plenty of those in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree as well. One such secret is the hidden function of the Divine Beast Head.

Updated July 19, 2024, by Huzaifa Haq: The Divine Beast Head is a useful quest item, but it's an interesting and unique armor piece in its own right. It has an intriguing stat spread and some powerful buffs that can potentially give rise to a build focused on storm-type incantations. Knowing these effects can help the players decide whether the downsides of this piece are worth the buffs they gain in return. The DLC has many such items that change the meta of the game, giving players the opportunity to experiment with new builds that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

How to Get the Divine Beast Head In Shadow of the Erdtree

Divine Beast Dancing Lion in Elden Ring

Getting the Divine Beast Head is simple enough. All players need to do is beat the first boss of the game, the Divine Beast Lion Dancer. This boss can be found in Belurat, the Tower Settlement. He is a particularly tough opponent for melee players because of his fast-paced combat style and constant movement.

Once players finish the fight, they will obtain the Divine Beast Head as loot without further instructions on its hidden function. However, there are hints if you know where to look.

Divine Beast Head: Overview & Stats

Ritual headwear in the form of a divine beast's head, used to perform the lion dance. Worn by the very finest of the sculpted keepers. Alas, it no longer responds to the old woman's earnest prayer.

Divine invocation heightens intensity of the storm alongside strength and dexterity, but reduces the restorative effect of drinking from a flask of sacred tears. Focus is also troubled by wearing this headwear.

The Divine Beast Head is a giant headpiece that isn't part of an armor set. It increases the damage of storm incantations, such as Death Lightning by almost 10%, making it a very powerful buff when combined with the talisman that players can get from the remembrance of the dancing lion.

The piece increases the Strength and Dexterity of the player by 4 each, but it reduces the restorative effects of the flask of sacred tears and has 0 Focus.

How to Use the Divine Beast Head in Shadow of the Erdtree

how to use divine beast head in shadow of the erdtree (2)

The main function of the Divine Beast Head is, of course, as headgear. It can be worn by the tarnished, which certainly adds bling to your character. It looks absolutely ridiculous due to its size, but it can be used to get some extra lore and a few goodies. Here's what you need to do:

  • Fast travel to the Private Altar site of grace in Belurat.
  • Go through the south door to reach a bridge with two enemies.
  • Kill the enemies and move forward to reach a locked door.
  • You will need the Storeroom Key to proceed. It can be obtained from a room slightly further up in the tower.
  • Go inside and talk to the NPC, Hornsent Grandam, sitting hunched over on the far-right bench in the Storeroom.

If players visit Hornsent Grandam before beating the Divine Beast, she will have a few choice words for them. There is a Divine Beast Head sitting on a table to the Grandam's left, hinting at a connection between the Beast and the Grandam.

Rewards for Talking to Hornsent Grandam in Shadow of the Erdtree

If the player isn't wearing the right gear, Hornsent Grandam will only make grunting noises. However, when the player tries to talk to her with the Divine Beast Head equipped, she will talk to the player for a little bit and give the player some rewards.

The first time, players will be given Watchful Spirit, a new incantation that needs 28 FAI to use and consumes 12 FP per cast. She also gives the player some stew if you visit her after reloading the area.
