A popular Elden Ring mod has received a significant update that expands on regions of the map, introduces perks for armor sets, and reworks a variety of other systems. As fans of Elden Ring await Shadow of the Erdtree with bated breath, mods keep some consistently returning to the Lands Between for a fresh experience.

FromSoftware titles tend to last in the public consciousness far longer than the majority of games. Beyond their impressive quality, this is often attributed to obscure lore which can take months to decipher and, of course, cooperative/multiplayer functionality. But the invasion system featured in the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring has never been treated with the live-service rigor afforded to more competitive games, with FromSoftware typically pushing out a few balance patches after release before moving on to other projects. Nonetheless, the community sticks by the games and the sheer number of mods available for those on PC is a major reason why.

Weird Elden Ring Bug Adds the Game's Biggest Meme to an Endgame Area

One Elden Ring player discovers another bug in the game, which involves one of its biggest memes being stranded in a place it's not supposed to be.

The Convergence is one of the largest overhaul mods for Elden Ring and update 1.4 develops on that premise even further. The biggest changes revolve around Stormveil Caste and Raya Lucaria, with both dungeons having their "layouts and progression" revamped. Additionally, Castle Morne sees an expansion in this update, which the patch notes describe as making it a "more traditional Legacy Dungeon." Other new introductions include a boss fight, five NPCs, over half a dozen weapons, and a few spells. Some merchants and their inventories have been restocked to provide an unlimited supply of the items they carry.

However, this is just what update 1.4 brings. The Convergence mods for both Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring are known for greatly expanding on magic systems, with the base mod for Elden Ring introducing hundreds of new spells. Convergence for Elden Ring also includes 27 new classes, each boasting a unique location to start their journey through the Lands Between. One of the best features is the ability to resurrect bosses, meaning that Tarnished do not have to go through NG+ or play all over again to fight their favorite enemies. Elden Ring Reforged is another overhaul mod that has boss resurrection and features a Sekiro Shadows Die Twice-esque deflect system that transforms how players can fight.

Mods like Reforged and Convergence are a large reason why Tarnished keep returning to Elden Ring while the wait for DLC marches on. Since the announcement of Shadow of the Erdtree in February 2023, FromSoftware has been effectively radio silent regarding the highly anticipated expansion, with fans left devastated after praying for an appearance at the most recent Game Awards, which never transpired.
