The Convergence mod for Elden Ring is big – really big. In addition to the countless changes it makes to the game's progression systems, crafting systems, enemy variety, and equipment, there are also no less than 27 new classes in the Convergence Mod to try out.
Each new modded class Elden Ring players can try feels completely unique, and each starts in a different part of the world. Be sure to try out an assortment of these new classes before committing to a new Convergence playthrough; their vastly different origins and starting equipment from the base game's classes make for vastly different playthroughs in this massive mod.
Retainer
- "A loyal and stalwart knight, classically trained in the tradition of sword and shield."
- Primary Stats: STR and DEX
The Retainer is the Elden Ring Convergence Mod's version of a basic knight. Equipped with a basic sword and shield, and a suit of standard armor, you can't really go wrong with this traditional Souls archetype.
It's got a good array of stats that can help springboard into other builds, but sticking to melee is just as viable an option. The Retainer is one of the few classes that starts with a 100% Physical Damage resist shield, too.
Retainer Starting Location: Outside Coastal Cave, Limgrave
The Retainer starts closer to the actual beginning of Elden Ring than other classes, spawning right outside of the
Coastal Cave beneath the cliffs south of the Church of Elleh. It's a good place to start for players who want the easiest Convergence Mod experience, as it practically mirrors the route players normally take in Elden Ring.
Vanguard
- "Always at the front lines, this knight was revered for his prowess on the battlefield."
- Primary Stats: STR and DEX
The Vanguard is like the Retainer, but without a shield – at least not at the start of Elden Ring's Convergence Mod. This warrior starts with a sword suitable for two-handing until they find a shield out in the world, but the Vanguard's armor set provides good defense until then.
Vanguards start a little bit more fragile than Retainers because of the inability to block 100% Physical Damage. But, with Jump and Heavy attacks, they can do a fair bit more damage.
Vanguard Starting Location: Above Stormgate, Limgrave
Vanguards start in a somewhat unique location that many players might not even know exists: the gate leading from the
Gatefront Ruins to Stormhill has a second level. The Vanguard class starts within sight of the Giant who drops down, but it's best to leave the safe way rather than jumping down as well.
Marksman
- "This experienced hunter is an expert in all long-range weaponry."
- Primary Stats: STR and DEX
Elden Ring has had some pretty major updates to the way Bows and ranged physical combat feels, and the Convergence Mod makes it even more satisfying – and a viable, central part of builds. The Marksman class starts with a basic shield and weapon, a light armor set, and a set of arrows with a Bow.
The Marksman is one of the most fun classes to try out in the Convergence mod because of the variety of updates to Bow combat. But be warned – this class has one of the most dangerous starting locations.
Marksman Starting Location: South Mistwood, Limgrave
After passing through the shining fog door at the Chapel of Anticipation, Marksman characters will find themselves in Limgrave, specifically, in the Mistwood. Luckily they are placed on the southern end of it, near a clearing, so simply head further South to find a grace by the cliffs and avoid all the Rune Bears within these cursed woods.
Berserker
-
Hailing from the North and wielding a
Greataxe, this warrior desires combat above all.
- Primary Stats: STR
The Berserker starts with an enormous Strength stat and a Greataxe, a weapon that can easily take players to the endgame if infused and upgraded correctly. Berserkers are great for players who want to get into melee combat and never leave the fray.
It's important to remember that Strength alone isn't enough to survive Elden Ring, though, and especially not the tougher challenges of the Convergence Mod. Invest in Vigor for more Health, and Endurance to be able to equip better armor without sacrificing I-Frames while dodging.
Berserker Starting Location: Stormhill, Limgrave
The Berserker begins in a place not far from the Retainer in Stormhill, the northern part of Limgrave. The Berserker starts a stone's throw from Bernahl's shack, and within sight of the field of Trolls that make for one of the best Rune Farms in Elden Ring.
Dreadnought
- "A warrior clad in heavy armor, standing as a lethal fortress against foes."
- Primary Stats: STR and END
The Dreadnought looks like a Paladin and plays like The Terminator, a class that makes up for its utter lack of magic and Faith-related skills with ridiculous melee combat stats. It starts with an incredibly defensive armor set, a
Mace, and a shield.
Though it's difficult to build into spellcasting with a Dreadnought, players who to try a class that's about as defensive as can be without sacrificing damage should pick the Dreadnought.
Dreadnought Starting Location: Near Purified Ruins, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Dreadnought starts in the southeast of Liurnia near the border of Limgrave. Normally, the bridge here it out, and it takes a little bit of maneuvering to get through the gap between the zones. However, in the Convergence Mod, the bridge is repaired, giving Dreadnoughts an easy way to access Limgrave.
Sellsword
- "A capricious mercenary, displaying expertise in the use of double-bladed weaponry."
- Primary Stats: DEX
Sellswords are a good all-around pick, like the Vanguard and Retainer, whose start location lends itself to typical Elden Ring progression routes. They start with a Twinblade, a weapon with fast attacks that can take advantage of infused Status Effects.
The Sellsword is the only class that starts with a Twinblade, so players who want to try a Twinblade build in the Convergence Mod should go with this Dexterity-based class.
Sellsword Starting Location: Camp North of Lake Agheel, Limgrave
The Sellsword starts a little bit north of Lake Agheel in Limgrave, just to the northeast of the Gatefront Ruins in a new, small camp area. Head south to unlock another Site of Grace and progress towards Stormveil Castle (or head the other way for
Castle Morne to level up).
Rogue
- "An assassin and master of tactical combat, this mercenary relies on agility and stealth."
- Primary Stats: DEX
The Rogue is the most traditional Dexterity-based class in the Convergence Mod, capable of wielding a variety of Dex-based weapons and Bows. They also start with a Buckler, which makes Parrying a little bit easier than with other shields.
The Rogue is a good pick for players who want to try something new in Elden Ring without delving into the new Spells of the Convergence Mod. There's a ton of updates to the way melee combat, in particular Bows, work in this mod, and the Rogue is a convenient way to see how different it can be.
Rogue Starting Location: Near Scenic Isle, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Rogue starts sort of in the middle of nowhere in Liurnia of the Lakes, near the Scenic Isle. Head south to find the cliffs that lead up to Stormveil, or explore the caves around Liurnia to level up and face Rennala nearby.
Glint Sorcerer
- "Trained at Raya Lucaria, this sorcerer is a student of Glintstone and Carian sorcery."
- Primary Stats: INT and MIND
The Glint Sorcerer, also called the Glintstone Sorcerer, is a traditional Sorcery-based class in the Convergence Mod. It starts with more spells than either the Astrologer or Prisoner in the base Elden Ring, complete with the Junior Scholar set normally only found via the Painting puzzles.
There are more than 100 new Spells Convergence Mod players can try out, and the Glintstone Sorcerer's magic-oriented stat distribution (and start location) makes it perfect for players who want to be a Mage.
Glint Sorcerer Starting Location: Academy Gate Town, Liurnia of the Lakes
The Glint Sorcerer class start location is not inside the Academy of Raya Lucaria, but just outside, in the Academy Gate Town. Perhaps, like Thopes, the player character simply stepped out and was locked away from their place of learning.
Starcaller
- "Obsessed with the otherworldly powers of the cosmos, this mage wields the forces of gravity."
- Primary Stats: INT and MIND
The Starcaller is a totally unique class to the Convergence mod as it starts with three powerful Gravity Sorcery spells. Though they look a bit creepy, Starcallers are one of the game's best starting classes for Sorceries because of the sheer power of Gravity magic.
Unlike other types of magic, Gravity magic is Physical and can stagger bosses and wreck armored enemies like the Crystalians.
Starcaller Starting Location: Weeping Peninsula, Limgrave
The Starcaller begins the game just outside the first location where most players meet an
Onyx Lord: just north of Castle Morne, in a field emanating purple, Gravity Sorcery-like energies.
Underworld Mage
- "Born in the ruins of a fallen empire, this mage employs the frozen lightning of the Dragonkin."
- Primary Stats: INT and MIND
The Underworld Mage is another Sorcery-based class players can choose in the Convergence Mod, this time focused on the twisted Frozen Lightning of the underground Dragonkin.
This class doesn't really have much basis in the game's standard lore, but being the only class that starts underground in this Elden Ring mod, the Underworld Mage is a good choice for players who fell in love with the Siofra River.
Underworld Mage Starting Location: Siofra River, Beneath Liurnia
Indeed, the Underworld Mage does begin in the underworld – more specifically, a new area of the ruins that lead into the Siofra River. This is a dangerous area, and it's not a bad idea to quickly leave through the Mistwood elevator and explore more level-appropriate areas.
