New builds are tested against Malenia as an Elden Ring player manages to beat her without getting hit by only using consumables on her. With the multitude of weapons, items, armor, and consumables in Elden Ring, the possibility for new builds is near endless. While testing them on a regular playthrough of the game is fine, players want to challenge the build they just created by taking on the game's most iconic boss, Malenia, Blade of Miquella. One player decided to take consumable weapons against her, not relying on their weapons to get them through the tough fight.
Being one of Elden Ring's toughest bosses to fight, Malenia can even take down experienced players with ease. A trial insurmountable by many, she comes at the player fast with multiple slashes that can leave them feeling overwhelmed by the assault, sliced to ribbons under her blade. Even when the player manages to beat her Blade of Miquella form, she transitions to her second phase, Goddess of Rot, which adds the destructive Scarlet Rot effect to the fight, finding new ways to kill the player.
One player took to using consumables against her, a practice that has seen success before, like when Elden Ring players used glintstone scraps against their PVP invaders to take them down. In the video posted to r/Eldenring, user DaddyWhoGames is shown taking on Malenia wearing nothing but a Jar helmet with a Jellyfish Shield in one hand, and a Twinbird Kite Shield in the other. While momentarily using the Contagious Fury skill from the Jellyfish Shield, they use that extra damage afforded to them to throw consumables such as Spark Aromatics, Volcano Pots, Magic Pots, and more all the while dodging her attacks expertly, until finally, she fell. However, this victory did not just come to them, as the user explains in the comments that it took them 12 hours to figure out the correct build and pot to beat her. Configuring the best build is an important strategy, as even a shield could make a player overpowered against Elden Ring's mighty Malenia. It was when they started using the Volcano Pots during her second phase, that on the fifth attempt, they took her down by themselves without even taking a single hit.
Even when Elden Ring throws its deadliest at the player, as long as they are willing to put in the time and work to build themselves up, they too can down the foe. For some players it could take them many hours and many deaths to defeat Malenia, while others only need to throw a few pots. How one designs their build can mean literal life and death in Elden Ring, so putting in the work to create a powerful one can take a player far.
Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
