The incumbent generation of gaming has seen the revitalization of many long-running video game franchises. While fans have been clamoring for the sequel to the revolutionary Breath of the Wild, for instance, developer D3Publisher is teasing the return of another beloved franchise through a series of announcements. According to the Japanese video game company, it is developing two new Earth Defense Force  games.

For its primary reveal, D3Publisher opened the website for Earth Defense Force 6, the next mainline entry in the popular series. Currently, the game's website is teasing a vague release date of 2021 and only has a few gameplay screenshots. However, the developer and publisher has more details for an Earth Defense Force  spinoff for the Nintendo Switch.

According to a recent YouTube trailer and an official Twitter statement, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers  will be available for both Switch and PS4 players in early 2021. The upcoming spin-off will task players with protecting a voxel version of Earth from alien invaders. On the recent GameSpot Play for All livestream, the developer also confirmed that World Brothers  will also receive an early Western release.

This news should come as a relief to anxious Earth Defense Force fans,  who have often needed to wait years for localized games. Hopefully, diehard EDF enthusiasts will not have to wait long for a translation of the sixth game in the main series.
