Summary

  • EA is shutting down Rory McIlroy PGA Tour on January 16, 2025.
  • Fans won't be able to access online features after the shutdown.
  • The Simpsons: Tapped Out is also shutting down in January 2025.

EA has confirmed that it is shutting down Rory McIlroy PGA Tour on January 16, 2025. EA keeps a running list of the games it is shutting down and delisting. It's disappointing that this happens at all, as it is awful for game preservation, but at least EA gives gamers enough notice so that they can play these games before they're gone.

EA has shut down multiple games in 2024 already, with even more on the chopping block in the near future. In fact, at least five EA games are shutting down in November, with FIFA 22 shutting down on November 4, and Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 (PS3/Xbox 360), Battlefield: Hardline (PS3/Xbox 360), and NBA Live 18 all shutting down on November 7. It remains to be seen what all EA is shutting down in 2025, but another game has been confirmed for the January shutdown list in the meantime.

As announced by EA, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is shutting down its online services on January 16, 2025. On that day, Rory McIlroy PGA Tour fans will no longer be able to access any of the game's online multiplayer features. In turn, this will make it impossible for fans to 100% the game, as some of its achievements and trophies will be disabled. This is unfortunate news, especially since Rory McIlroy is only one of two EA Sports golf games playable on modern platforms.

List of EA Games Shutting Down in 2025

  • Rory McIlroy PGA Tour - January 16, 2025
  • The Simpsons: Tapped Out - January 24, 2025

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was first released in 2015 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was the first PGA Tour game to be released without Tiger Woods' namesake and marked the first entry released on eighth generation consoles. It earned mixed reviews from critics at the time of its release. A follow-up wasn't released until 2023 in the form of EA Sports PGA Tour, which similarly earned mixed reviews. EA Sports PGA Tour's online features remain functional for now, but it's highly likely that they will be shut down at some point in the future as well.

Rory McIlroy is one of two EA games confirmed to be shutting down in 2025 so far. Joining it in January is The Simpsons: Tapped Out, a popular mobile game that will be shutting down on January 24, 2025. The Simpsons: Tapped Out will be delisted on October 31, though will remain functional until January.
