For years, EA Access has been exclusive to Xbox One (with a comparative service called Origin Access on PC), but that is about to change. Despite Sony passing on EA Access a few years ago by saying it didn't provide a great value, EA's subscription service is finally coming to PS4 when EA Access launches this July.
An exact date in July is unavailable at this time, but more information on that front should come to light in the coming weeks. We also don't know which games EA Access on PS4 will launch with. However, we do have some pricing information. It's been confirmed that EA Access on PS4 will cost the same as it does on Xbox One. Beginning in July, PS4 owners can sign up for EA Access for $4.99 per month or $29.99 for a year.
With an EA Access subscription, players get access to the bulk EA's current-generation games through the EA Access Vault. They also get a 10% discount when purchasing new EA games digitally, in addition to free trials. Oftentimes, EA Access subscribers can play new games a week or so earlier than everyone else, so that's another reason to sign up for the service.
For sports game fans or fans of EA games in general, EA Access may be a no-brainer. If someone plans on purchasing just one new EA video game in a year, but waits for it to be added to the Vault (which usually takes around six months or so), then the subscription ends up paying for itself and then some.
But again, we don't know what games EA Access on PS4 will have at launch. It's possible that it won't include nearly as many games as are currently available on the service on Xbox One, but we imagine EA would try to keep the services relatively even on both platforms.
Unfortunately, there is one big catch when it comes to EA Access on PS4 that may upset those who own multiple consoles. It's been confirmed that having an EA Access subscriptions are not cross-platform, meaning someone who wants it on both PS4 and Xbox One will have to sign up for two subscriptions.
Regardless, PS4 owners will finally be able to sign up for EA Access in July 2019.
