Techland, the studio behind the beloved Dying Light series, has said it is already throwing around ideas for where the next game could go after The Beast. Three years after the launch of Dying Light 2, Techland is gearing up to revisit Kyle Crane's story in Dying Light: The Beast. The third instalment in the famous zombie series will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 19, with a last-gen release to follow later this year.
Initially, Dying Light: The Beast was scheduled to launch for current-gen consoles and PC in August, but Techland announced in July that it had delayed the game's release by four weeks in order to "allow for extra polishing work." The good news, however, is that anybody who owns the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 will be receiving The Beast for free. This is because the third entry in the series actually started out as a DLC for Dying Light 2, but after some unfortunate leaks revealed elements of the expansion, Techland opted to pivot and turn The Beast into a fully fledged standalone title.
Dying Light is Kicking Off a 'Hot Zombie Summer'
Dying Light has a busy few months ahead, and it might have just kicked off a 'Hot Zombie Summer' for the rest of the gaming industry.
Techland Already Has Ideas for Another Dying Light Game
As the Dying Light series continues to surpass incredible sales milestones, it's no surprise that Techland has no signs of slowing down. In a recent interview with The Gamer during Gamescom, Dying Light: The Beast's director, Nathan Lemaire, told the outlet that the studio always has new ideas being thrown around. "Right now, we are super-heavily focused on making Dying Light: The Beast the best game that we have ever released at Techland in our more than 30 years of existence," Lemaire said. He continues by explaining, "But you can never stop developers from having ideas, right? We always have new ideas: What can we do more? Where can we go next? We talk about this all the time."
Any ideas that are being discussed at Techland right now are likely informal ones, as the studio says it's entirely focused on shipping Dying Light: The Beast right now. If the studio does opt to make another entry in the series, fans shouldn't expect it to arrive anytime soon. As Techland has previously gone on record to state that it considers Dying Light: The Beast to essentially be Dying Light 3, it's unclear where the studio would go with a fourth installment. Techland could simply go with Dying Light 4, but that might be confusing to some fans.
With a fourth Dying Light game likely still years away, it's going to be quite some time before Techland discusses what ideas it has for a new entry. The good news, however, is that there are only a couple of weeks left to go until Dying Light: The Beast is released. For those who might be unaware, The Beast will pick up 13 years after the events of the original Dying Light. During this time, the game's protagonist, Kyle Crane, has been held captive brutally experimented on. The title will finally reveal what happened to Kyle Crane after the events of the first Dying Light, while also bridging the gap between the first and second titles.
