Summary

  • Dying Light: The Beast announces gameplay trailer and release date reveal for June 6.
  • The trailer will be shown as part of Summer Game Fest.
  • The Beast was initially developed as a Dying Light 2 DLC, before pivoting to a standalone game.

Friday, June 6 is going to be a big day for Dying Light fans, as developer Techland has confirmed that it will finally be revealing the release date for Dying Light: The Beast alongside a new gameplay trailer. Dying Light: The Beast was first revealed by Techland at Gamescom 2024 and was initially supposed to be an expansion for the 2022 sequel, Dying Light 2. However, after a leak in 2023, the studio opted to turn the DLC into a fully fledged game, albeit shorter than both Dying Light and Dying Light 2.

In 2022, Techland launched the massively successful Dying Light 2. While the sequel takes place after the events of its predecessor, it does not continue the story of Kyle Crane. Instead, Dying Light 2 follows Aiden Caldwell, a Pilgrim, which is somebody who travels between settlements to deliver resources. Although Dying Light 2 receive generally favorable reviews from fans and critics, a common request from the community was to see Dying Light's protagonist return. While initial plans had the character returning as part of a DLC for Dying Light 2, the studio is now gearing up to release the story as a standalone game.

Ten years after the original game was released, and three years since the sequel, 2025 is a great time to revisit the Dying Light franchise games.

Dying Light: The Beast Release Date Reveal Coming June 6

Following its full reveal in August 2024, which confirmed the long-standing rumors that the iconic Dying Light protagonist Kyle Crane would return, fans have been eager to see more of the title. While Techland did show more of The Beast at The Game Awards 2024, a full gameplay reveal and release date will finally be announced on June 6 as part of Summer Game Fest. A short teaser for the reveal was posted by Geoff Keighley, Summer Game Fest host and creator, confirming that new gameplay will be shown on Friday alongside an official release date. As of right now, the title is targeting a Summer 2025 launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

While there has yet to be a confirmed price point for the next Dying Light game, Techland has announced that owners of Dying Light 2's Ultimate Edition will receive the game at no additional cost. Unfortunately, the Ultimate Edition was delisted on September 30, likely due to the upcoming release of Dying Light: The Beast. Those who have already nabbed the Ultimate Edition, which comes with the Bloody Ties DLC, weapon charms, outfits, weapons, XP boosts, and more, will receive The Beast for free. But anybody who doesn't already own Dying Light 2's Ultimate Edition will have to pay full price for the game.

After revealing Dying Light: The Beast last year, Techland went on to announce an ambitious roadmap for Dying Light 2. While the studio is fully focused on shipping The Beast later this year, Dying Light 2 fans still have plenty to look forward to as the studio has also revealed a new Halloween event, a big Fall update, and a new Winter Tales event. Techland has also said it is continuing to work on new features for Dying Light 2, such as new weapon classes, free outfits and gear, community map support, prologue improvements, graphical upgrades, and more.
