Dying Light: The Beast is bringing back one of the most awesome weapon types from the first game: Swords. But getting one is a little bit tricky, and players need to know exactly where to look for them before enjoying some post-apocalyptic fencing and making zombie heads roll with style.
This guide will help players pinpoint the exact location of some cool early-game blades, one of them, a recipe they can re-use as many times as they want, and even turn into a Legendary Weapon.
Where to Find a Sword in Dying Light: The Beast
For Dying Light: The Beast players having a hard time looking for a decent weapon to turn infected into mincemeat, there's one particular sword they can get quite early, and will accompany them for a long time before they find a decent replacement: The Rust. This blade is a makeshift sword that players can craft by using a lot of common resources, and it can be upgraded as they find Manual Pages.
Players can find the blueprint for The Rust north of the Town Hall, in the Old City. It is located in a Safe Spot called 'Highway Bus Refuge' and if players follow the grid in the map, they will be able to pinpoint this location approximately in C3 (though the grid is a little bit blurry and takes time to get used to it).
How to Upgrade The Rust in Dying Light: The Beast
The Rust can be upgraded by increasing its level, or increasing the Quality of the blueprint, from normal to rare, and then to epic and legendary. The more the quality is upgraded, the higher the durability, base damage, and extra damage to Head hits it will cause. The Rust is specialized in precision targeting to decapitate enemies, so getting lots of mats to upgrade it is definitely worth it.
It will require Scraps, Wiring, Leather, and Blades, as well as Basic Manual Pages, and Intermediate Manual Pages to take it up to Epic Grade. Then, for Legendary Grade, it will require Feathers and Expert Manual Pages.
Players should consider grabbing the Avalanche and Frost Mods and adding them to Two-Handed swords, as their charged attacks will cause Freezing and frost damage on enemies, slowing them down and applying a DoT effect.
If players need a more powerful Sword in the mid-stage of Dying Light: The Beast, once they have reached level 10-12, they can farm Convoys by slaying Military Zombies and stealing their Keycards. This is not a sure-shot method to get a better sword, like the Modern Sabre, but there are a few locations that have a high probability of yielding one of these blades of Epic Quality:
- Mountain Path Convoy (located at G6)
- Farmlands Convoy (located between D6/7)
- Mountain Tunnel Convoy (Located North of Highway Tower Safe Spot)
The Mountain Tunnel Convoy farming spot is the one with greater chances of having a Modern Sabre, and players can farm it by sleeping in the nearby Safe Spot, since loot refreshes every day in the morning.
