Dying Light: The Beast is an exciting spin-off as it marks the return of original hero Kyle Crane. For 13 years, Kyle has been undergoing cruel experiments. After escaping his captors, Kyle is welcomed by a drastically changed world that he must survive while also seeking revenge. Dying Light: The Beast promises an action-packed story that expands the series's lore, and the franchise may not want to stop there.
According to the game's Steam page, Dying Light: The Beast is a standalone chapter in the series, which still leaves the door open for a mainline Dying Light 3. As the wait for a hypothetical Dying Light 3 continues, though, the franchise may want to give Dying Light 2 protagonist Aiden Caldwell his own standalone spin-off.
Why Dying Light: The Beast’s Baron is the Perfect Antagonist for Kyle Crane
In an interview with The Best War Games, Techland's Tymon Smektala discusses what makes Dying Light: The Beast's Baron such a formidable enemy.
Aiden Caldwell Could Star in His Own Version of Dying Light: The Beast
Aiden's Backstory Mirrors Dying Light: The Beast's Main Premise
- In Dying Light 2, it's revealed that Aiden was experimented on as a child.
- Because of these experiments, Aiden is capable of great strength and speed.
With Aiden's past history of being experimented on, he and Kyle Crane are bound to have far more in common with one another when Dying Light: The Beast launches. His infected status, combined with his abilities and skills as a post-pandemic survivor, proves Aiden could be a solid character to explore even further.
He may not have the same strong following that Kyle Crane has, but there is still a lot of potential for Aiden as a lead character. Frankly, Aiden's agility and the fact that a post-outbreak world is all he knows might even make him more capable than Kyle Crane. There's even the potential for Aiden Caldwell to be featured in Dying Light: The Beast via the game's co-op mode. This has yet to be confirmed, but it's not impossible just yet.
Dying Light: The Beast was intended to be DLC for Dying Light 2. However, after hackers leaked data of the expansion, developer Techland decided to make it a full-blown game.
Dying Light 2's Story May Keep it From Any Spin-Offs
- The story of Dying Light 2 was a common criticism among players and critics.
Unfortunately, Dying Light 2 can be lacking when it comes to a strong plot and character development. Aiden may be an interesting protagonist, but the supporting characters of the story and the rushed ending generate a lot of bad memories of playing as Aiden. The faults of the sequel may have hurt Aiden's chances at returning again, but only time will tell.
Ultimately, it might be best for the franchise to keep its focus on Dying Light's Kyle Crane, at least for a while. Kyle remains beloved by a lot of fans of the series, and allowing him to have the spotlight for the time being is likely to be the stronger choice for the franchise's future.
The Wait For Dying Light: The Beast Will Hopefully Be Over Soon
- Dying Light: The Beast is currently eyeing a 2025 release target.
- An official launch date has yet to be confirmed.
Right now, fans eagerly awaiting the return of Kyle Crane don't have a clear window of time to look forward to. The game is currently expected to arrive this year, but delays are always possible. There are a lot of anticipated games set to launch in 2025, and if Dying Light: The Beast secures a release date, it will add to an already exciting year.
