Even 10 years after the original game was released, the Dying Light franchise’s signature parkour-combat still sets it apart from its competition. So, especially for players who haven’t played the original Dying Light or Dying Light 2 Stay Human recently, or at all, these games are highly worth revisiting.

With a new Dying Light game coming out soon, right now is a great time to play the existing two games for a fresh playthrough in 2025, to get a refresher on Kyle Crane’s ongoing story before the next chapter becomes available in Dying Light: The Beast. Otherwise, returning players who haven’t played either of the games in a while might be pleasantly surprised by some of the latest updates and new content available.

Why Now Is the Best Time to Play the Original Dying Light

Refresh on Kyle Crane’s Unfinished Story Ahead of Dying Light: The Beast’s Release This Year

Although the release of Dying Light: The Beast lies ahead, players have plenty of time to revisit the original Dying Light to relive Kyle Crane’s journey so far before experiencing the next chapter in his journey. Not to mention, with the fan-favorite The Following DLC being a canon part of this journey, this is the perfect excuse for another playthrough of this beloved DLC.

Dying Light: The Beast doesn’t have an exact release date yet, though it’s anticipated to be released sometime in 2025.

By now, the original Dying Light has celebrated its 10th anniversary, and its unique parkour elements in both exploration and combat make it a one-of-a-kind game to this day. This is admittedly a lot to say considering how much competition there is among open-world Action RPGs set in a zombie apocalypse, yet still, the original Dying Light stands out among recent zombie games, making it worth a revisit even in 2025, for both the opportunity to relive Kyle Crane’s journey and to once again get immersed in the game’s stylish appeal.

Experience all the Latest New Content and Improvements from Dying Light 2’s Post-Launch Updates

While Techland has already clarified where and when each game fits into the official Dying Light franchise timeline, it’s unclear to what degree the characters and events from Dying Light 2 will tie into Dying Light: The Beast. However, Dying Light 2 is still worth revisiting in 2025, regardless of the next game in the franchise coming soon, particularly to experience some of the latest new content and updates for the game.

Dying Light 2 is said to have a five-year plan for post-launch support. So far, there have been several major changes and new additions added to the game, enough so that returning players might have new content and endgame progression systems to experience. As of early 2025, there are still two more years left of ongoing support planned for Dying Light 2, so players can look out for plenty more content and improvements to come as well.

As part of Dying Light 2’s plans for future updates, Techland has offered an open invite for players' suggestions and wishlists regarding particular features, like the new Tower Raid permanent game mode. So, while players might be considering waiting to revisit the game until after its final content update is available a couple of years from now, the benefit of returning now, in 2025, is that players can participate in shaping the game’s future.
