Despite being around for literal decades, Dungeons and Dragons is more popular than ever. The TTRPG has had a recent surge in popularity and a rule refresh, with several exciting releases in 2024. 2025 is already set to have some notable releases in the form of new sourcebooks, adventures, and a new digital 3D platform to play on D&D Beyond.
The new core rulebooks have streamlined much of the gameplay and removed some of the barriers of entry in Dungeons and Dragons. What's left is for WotC to create adventures based on the new rules it has created. 2025 will see the release of a new core rulebook for DMs, some new adventures that will delight dragon fans, and a new, immersive way of playing Dungeons and Dragons that'll bring games to life around the table.

The New Monster Manual Releases February 2025
New Sourcebook Releases in 2025
The first major D&D event in 2025 will be the release of the new Monster Manual, which will be an essential resource for DMs in the updated edition. The Monster Manual is the final of the core source books to be released for the new rule set, and contains descriptions of monsters, stat blocks, recommended levels, and other useful information for hundreds of monsters. The Monster Manual is set to be released on February 18, 2025, although a digital edition on D&D Beyond will be released on February 4.
There's more in store for players beyond the Monster Manual. There will be a new Dragon Anthology released in the summer of 2025. With ten short adventures featuring dragons, the Dragon Anthology is a must for dragon fans, especially because dragons are oddly rare in DnD's recent prewritten adventures.
Fall 2025 will see the release of a new Starter Set featuring the rules from the new core books; its working title is Heroes of the Borderlands. More in-depth resources for players beyond the Player's Handbook will also launch later in 2025, including The Forgotten Realms Player Guide, which will include setting overview, an overview of the classes, subclasses, feats, backgrounds, species, spells, and faction information. Finally, a resource for DMs called The Forgotten Realms Adventure Guide is on the way, which gives in-depth information on the settings in the Forgotten Realms, including iconic locales such as Baldur's Gate, Calimshan, and Icewind Dale.
The Forgotten Realms books are also working titles and are subject to change.
D&D Beyond Continues to Revolutionize Gameplay
Gather the Party with Virtual Tabletop
As technology has advanced, so have the ways players use Dungeons and Dragons. Getting players together into one place to play has always been a challenge, especially as players get older, or if players live in different cities or countries, and so playing DnD virtually has become popular. D&D Beyond is an official platform that facilitates online gameplay, and the platform is taking it a step further to facilitate players in 2025 with a virtual tabletop program, codenamed Project Sigil. It will allow players to create their own miniatures, and place them into a virtual world to play out their adventures.
Project Sigil will be free-to-play, and entered closed beta in the second half of 2024, an encouraging sign for players who enjoy playing virtually. While the app will only be available on PC on launch, it may later be available on other platforms. Gameplay footage from D&D Beyond looks promising, with a top-down view and some great special effects, such as spell and status effects on character models, much like Baldur's Gate 3. There isn't an official release date for Project Sigil yet, but given the timing of the beta, fans could expect to hear news throughout 2025.
