Summary

  • New releases are coming in 2025 for Dungeons and Dragons, including a new Starter Set and adventure anthology inspired by dragon redesigns.

  • Fans can look forward to The Forgotten Realms Player Guide and Adventure Guide, offering detailed setting information and new player options.

Dungeons and Dragons recently announced four sourcebooks coming in 2025: a new Starter Set, an adventure anthology inspired by the dragon redesigns, and two books delving into the Forgotten Realms. Both veteran players and new fans drawn to Dungeons and Dragons by their time with Baldur’s Gate 3 might not want to miss out on next year’s releases.

As both the 50-year anniversary of D&D and the 10-year anniversary of 5th Edition, 2024 was a big year for Dungeons and Dragons. Much of Wizards of the Coast’s time and effort has been spent on developing a new version of the 5th Edition core rulebooks, with the Dungeons and Dragons 2024 Player’s Handbook releasing on September 17, and the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide on November 12.

However, Dungeons and Dragons is already looking towards its future releases. During its recent D&D Direct presentation, Wizards of the Coast revealed several new books coming in 2025. A new anthology with 10 adventures, each themed after one of the new dragon designs in Dungeons and Dragons, releases next summer, and a Starter Set using the revised rules is scheduled for fall 2025, featuring a reimagined version of the classic The Keep on the Borderlands introductory adventure. Additionally, a player guide and adventure guide set in the Forgotten Realms are expected to arrive sometime next year.

Though both are currently operating under working titles, The Forgotten Realms Player Guide will contain a setting overview of Faerun, plus subclasses, feats, backgrounds, and spells, including a new type of spell, as well as information on how to join iconic factions like the Harpers or Zhentarim. The Forgotten Realms Adventure Guide is a Dungeon Master resource that will contain detailed setting information, including deep dives into Baldur’s Gate, Calimshan, The Dalelands, the Moonshae Isles, and Icewind Dale. Given the new core rulebooks return to the original D&D setting of Greyhawk, fans are glad to see some books will go back to the Forgotten Realms of Baldur’s Gate 3 fame.

The Wizards of the Coast presentation showcased a few other new products coming this year as well. The Secret Lair x Dungeons and Dragons Superdrop featuring Magic: The Gathering cards of classic and iconic characters is available now, and a new collection of 12 D&D-themed LEGO minifigure blind boxes will go on sale starting September 1. Several third-party releases will be added to D&D Beyond soon, including books from Kobold Press and MCDM, and Project SigilDungeons and Dragons’ new virtual tabletop – enters closed beta this fall, with sign-ups available via D&D Beyond right now.
