The playable space in Dune: Awakening is massive, and given the prevalence of sandworms in the open desert, walking from one end of the map to the other is going to be impossible. Thankfully, there are a number of vehicles in the game, and they'll do more than just make you go faster

Players can drive/pilot different vehicles from Dune lore, and they all function just as much as you'd expect them based on the source material. Here's what you can look forward to riding once you get your bearings straight in the deserts of Arrakis.

Here are the best early items you need to get in Dune: Awakening to make your adventure much more enjoyable.

How to Get Vehicles in Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening Assembling Ornithopter

Players who want to get any sort of vehicle in this game can do the following:

  • Unlock vehicle schematics and craft all required vehicle parts
  • Scavenge the world for individual vehicle parts
  • Claim ownership of unowned vehicles
  • Purchase vehicle parts from players or vendors

Vehicles in Dune: Awakening are assembled piece by piece, which means you don't necessarily have to craft the parts yourself to make your own vehicle. You can get vehicle parts from various sources in the world, and if you're lucky enough to find a working vehicle, you can use that as a base (or dismantle it for more resources).

All vehicle schematics can be unlocked via the Research tab by spending Intel Points. You can get the latter by leveling up or by raiding medium-large NPC camps.

Sandbike

Dune: Awakening Sandbike at dawn

The Sandbike is the first vehicle in Dune: Awakening. It's a one-man vehicle (though it can be fitted to seat more players) meant to improve personal mobility, which is something that players will need if they don't want to get eaten by sandworms while crossing the desert. Sandbikes are fast and surprisingly durable, capable of tumbling down huge heights without getting itself or its rider in trouble.

Sandbikes are the fastest of the land vehicles, and their small size easily lets players slip through tight cracks and passages. They can be equipped with various modules, including storage units, resource scanners, and boosters.

The most basic of Sandbikes are made with Copper, and more advanced variants of Sandbike parts are crafted with higher-tier metals.

Buggy

Buggies are larger and slower compared to Sandbikes. Instead of mobility, these vehicles are built for mining operations. Buggies can be equipped with Mining Lasers that can harvest minerals faster than handheld Cutterays, and they can also store thousands of ores in their storage compartments.

If you're headed for war, Buggies can also be armed with missile launchers. Both missile and mining laser turrets must be manned by players in order to be used.

Ornithopter

Dune's iconic Ornithopters come in three variants:

  • Scout Ornithopters are designed for speed and exploration.
  • Assault Ornithopters are armed with weapons for combined arms combat
  • Carrier Ornithopters are made to ferry resources or groups of people across the desert

There's an Ornithopter variant for all situations, and which ones you pick depends on what you need. For most players, the Scout Ornithopter is enough, as it allows easy travel between regions without risk of sandworm attacks, but if you plan on fighting in the Deep Desert against other players, the Assault or Carrier variants are going to be viable options.

Basic Ornithopters require Aluminum Ingots and materials gathered from the northern and western parts of Hagga Basin.

Sandcrawlers

Dune: Awakening Sandcrawler Assembly Research

Sandcrawlers are massive vehicles designed for large Spice harvesting operations. They require large amounts of expensive materials, and building one is usually achievable either through sheer persistence or group play, as some of the resources needed to build it can only be gathered from the Deep Desert.
