Developer Just2D and publisher Deck13 have released the final update for action RPG Drova - Forsaken Kin titled The Flesh Rises, which delivers a lot of changes based on player feedback, new challenges, spells, and bug fixes. Drova - Forsaken Kin has been heralded as a love letter to RPGs, and thanks to fan demand, players can also bag a brand-new Cay the Boar Piglet plushie announced in the update.

Drova - Forsaken Kin blends dark lore with Celtic mythology, and players seek new abilities and world secrets while spirits and factions fight for their place in the world. In addition to publishing Drova - Forsaken Kin, Deck13 has also developed a slew of titles, including the original 2014 Lords of the Fallen, The Surge series, and Humble Choice Games’ 2024 pick Atlas Fallen, a 2023 action RPG featuring a shard-filled open world where players can manipulate sand into weapons through an ancient gauntlet.

Drova - Forsaken Kin joins some of the best 2D RPGs on the market, including Mother 3, Final Fantasy 6, and Chrono Trigger, and its final update has dawned. Outlined in a Steam blog post, Drova’s update 1.3 adds new lategame content, so players can uncover even more secrets. A new Dungeon of the Bygones has been added, alongside a host of new spells that can be discovered in Chapter 4. Furthermore, a new tileset for the Red Moor has been implemented to give the caves more graphical variety, which is another change based on player feedback.

Drova - Forsaken Kin’s spells and feared monsters lend the game its darker themes and place it alongside the best urban gothic games, such as Bloodborne, The Sinking City, and Clive Barker’s Undying. Some of the update’s additional changes affect these elements, such as new monsters appearing in Chapters 2 and 4. A list of balancing changes was also delivered in the patch, including altercations to damage, and a long list of bug fixes was issued to make gameplay more seamless.

Thanks to its RPG elements, Drova - Forsaken Kin is one of the best action RPGs for Baldur’s Gate fans, joining the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dragon Age: Origins, and Mass Effect 2. Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios became a massive 2023 hit and even took home the Game of the Year accolade. However, Drova has accumulated a loyal following of its own, being compared to Baldur’s Gate predecessors and even Secret of Evermore.
