There are a variety of engines in Dredge, and many of them can be used to great effect. That said, some players will want to be certain that they are equipping their vessels with the absolute best engine setups, and there are two configurations that they should consider. This guide is here to provide details on both of those configurations, and it will help fans work toward the best engine setups in Dredge.

There is a strong case to be made that the best engine setup in Dredge is simply to fill every slot with a Jet Drive Engine, a 1x1 engine that is in the top-right corner of the engines research tree. While it is true that this is not the absolute fastest configuration in the game, there are several reasons why it can be considered the best, and they are as follows:

Damage

The biggest reason to opt for a Jet Drive Engine-based setup is that it is much more resilient to damage than a configuration that utilizes a large block engine. Indeed, if a bump happens to damage an engine slot, losing the power of a single Jet Drive Engine is preferable to losing the power of an entire block engine. While this may not be relevant to Dredge players that never take damage, it does become more difficult to avoid bumps in the late-game.

Scalability

Another pull toward Jet Drive Engines is that their small size allows them to be easily installed regardless of how many engine space upgrades a player has performed. This means that players can start installing Jet Drive Engines in their vessels as soon as it has been researched and then continue to add more of them as they work toward Dredge's ending.

Research Parts

Finally, focusing on Jet Drive Engines allows players to essentially ignore the engines on the other side of the research tree, freeing up quite a number of Research Parts for unlocking other equipment. While fans with a stockpile of money can farm unlimited Research Parts in Dredge, players that are just scraping by may be glad to save some of those important research items.

With all of this said, players that simply want the fastest engine setup in their Dredge ships should work toward installing an Engine Stack, a six-slot engine in the bottom-right corner of the research tree, and four Jet Drive Engines. This configuration provides +105.2 kn, while using 10 Jet Drive Engines grants just +95 kn, and fans that crave speed above all else will definitely be happy with it.
