Dragon's Dogma 2 developers are gearing up the action RPG for the arrival of its upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro version with the release of a new software update. While the more powerful version of the PS5 has the potential to increase the performance of any software it plays, Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of several dozen games being refitted by its developers specifically to take advantage of the new hardware.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is set for launch on November 7, offering multiple upgrades over the original PlayStation 5, including 45 percent faster rendering, 28 percent faster memory, and more than a terabyte of additional storage. Developers across the industry have been taking notice of the mid-generation console over the past several months, announcing more than 70 games that will take advantage of the PS5 Pro's upgraded hardware.
Why Microsoft is Not Releasing an Xbox Rival to the PS5 Pro
The PS5 Pro is set to become the most powerful gaming console. Find out why Microsoft is leaving the Xbox Series X largely unchanged.
A Dragon's Dogma 2 update for October 31, announced on publisher/developer Capcom's official website, shows the progress made in optimizing the game for PS5 Pro. While these changes won't affect the game when played on other platforms, the upgrades will provide PS5 Pro users with a section in the options menu related to the new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution feature, giving them the ability to take full advantage of the new console's upgraded power. Additionally, players on PS5 Pro will have more options for choosing between graphics and performance, as the new balanced graphics quality setting included in the update will provide a midpoint between higher frame rates and graphical quality.
While the PlayStation 5 Pro upgrades are a timely release, with the console just one week from its debut, the new update also addressed some minor issues on existing consoles and PC. Probably the most notable is a fix to a game-breaking bug for an early Dragon's Dogma 2 quest, Nesting Trouble, in which the thrown jar of poison that should be the apex of the quest instead ends its progress altogether, leaving it unable to be finished. Other bugs that have been addressed include one that had been causing Calm or Straightforward pawns to sometimes cease all their actions and one where the minimap would constantly zoom in and out while the player is passing through Hermit's Retreat.
This is the second big Dragon's Dogma 2 update for October 2024. The first, which was released around the middle of the month, fulfilled the demands of a lot of players on console by introducing a setting that lets players prioritize either graphics or performance. This move essentially gave PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners the option to bump up the game's frame rate to a maximum of 60 frames per second, bringing it on par with the PC version of the game.
