Dragon's Dogma 2 has made its long-awaited release 12 years after the immensely popular original title by Capcom. The game empowers players to take the role of the Arisen once again and fulfill their destiny as the monarch of the realm and the natural enemy to the Dragon. With an enormous map to explore, and countless items to find on your travels, it is certain to keep players occupied for a long time.
Players looking for a boost in the relatively early stages of their Dragon's Dogma 2 playthrough may benefit from attempting to grab the valuables inside the secured vault of Vernworth Castle. If you are looking to find and use the key to Vernworth Vault, this guide will show you its location, as well as the rewards you can expect for your efforts.
Dragon's Dogma 2: The Caged Magistrate Walkthrough
The caged Magistrate refuses to leave his cell until players discover a place with plenty of tomes in Dragons's Dogma 2.
How To Get The Vernworth Vault Key
Players seeking out the treasures behind the locked door in Vernworth Palace will need to travel far from the city to acquire the
Makeshift Vault Key. In order to do so, they will need to venture to the north west of Vernworth City to the Ancient Battleground landmark. This is closer to the Checkpoint Rest Town, so those heading that way from Vernworth would be better off getting an ox cart from the city to the Checkpoint Rest Town then proceeding from there.
Once players reach the Ancient Battleground, they will be approached by a NPC asking for assistance, which triggers the side quest "Tolled To Rest", whereby the Arisen and their party of Pawns are tasked with guiding the NPC, Oskar, through the site to ring a bell. If players complete this quest, they will find the key to the Vernworth Vault at the end of the mission, in a chest where the bell is situated.
For those who are returning after the "Tolled To Rest" mission or opted not to complete the optional objectives, you can reach the key by turning left when entering the site and following the path until you reach a ladder. Climb the ladder and head across the small field of grass and over the turret, until you find a hole with a ladder that you can climb down. Once you are down the ladder and rubble, turn right and head up the stairs. The room you need will be on the right after the second staircase, with the chest to the right of the room's entrance.
How To Get Into Vernworth Vault
Once players have acquired the Makeshift Vault Key, they will need to go back to Vernworth Castle in the capital city. They will need to do it alone, as Pawns are not permitted to be in the castle grounds. Players can find the entrance to the vault by entering the main doors, turning left, then veering to the right as they come to a small set of stairs. From there, continue along the corridors and down the stairs until the Arisen finds the entrance, which is likely guarded.
While this may be relatively easy to find, the guard at the door can prove a difficult obstacle to overcome, as walking past them will automatically send you back up the stairs. There are three ways that you can get past the security measures and into the vault.
- You can pick up a barrel from the nearby kitchen and throw it at the guard to prompt them to chase you. After giving chase, the soldier will eventually give up and start to head back to their post. If you can put yourself in an advantageous position in the chase, you can beat the guard back to their post and slip into the vault unnoticed.
- You can kill the guard. This will likely be easier with a ranged vocation like the Archer, or you can choose to bait them with a barrel, then kill them. Fortunately, if you would rather not have a guard's blood on your hands, you can always revive them with a Wakestone once your looting is done.
- You can wait until the sun has just set and sneak in as Disa does her rounds of the Vault. This is perhaps the riskiest way to do it, as you will need to avoid her catching you or risk ending up thrown in gaol.
All Vernworth Vault Rewards
Given the amount of effort players need to make just to acquire the key, the Vernworth Vault naturally has a plethora of valuable items that will prove beneficial to you and your journey. There are three chests and one bag of coins to loot in the vault, so ensure you take everything of value from the room. The vault contains the following:
In particular, the Daughter of the Evening Shield is a useful item for Fighter builds and has great stats, and the Ring of Reassurance is a great addition to your Pawn's loadout, as it offers a defensive bonus when you help them up.
