How To Ground Large Beasts In Dragon's Dogma 2
No matter what creature stands before you, it is likely that they are at their best while on their feet, especially when taking into account the immense weight they carry that is capable of crushing you. While this is a strength for the likes of Ogres, it can also be its weakness with the right strategy, which is where Dragon's Dogma 2's grab and push mechanics come in handy.
To push and knock over a large beast, players will need to approach the monster they are battling and press R2/RT and the direction they want to move the creature. While, in theory, this sounds straight forward, it won't realistically work if it is just you against an enormous monster with its two feet firmly planted in the ground. There are a few extra considerations to make in order for the technique to be successful:
- Before approaching the creature, sheathe your weapon, so you can make full use of both hands.
- Aim to try this when the beast is stunned, and push or pull in the direction it is stumbling.
- For a more forceful hit, get a running start at the beast and jump right before you grab it.
- Your weight and positioning can have a huge influence over your success. Consider packing extra weight on your Arisen and, if the opportunity arises, jump at the beast from higher ground and aim for its head.
-
Make use of explosive weapons like barrels or
Explosive Arrow
to propel the creature in a favorable direction.
- If the beast has a tenancy to charge, like the Minotaur, try and coax it into hitting a wall and move out of the way before impact to give you a head-start.
If you are successful in grounding a large beast, it will open a window of opportunity to unleash a barrage of attacks between you and your party of Pawns before it stirs and returns to its feet. You are not limited to the number of knockdowns you can inflict on a beast in battle, so this is a particularly useful technique to master for when you take on the tougher creatures with four or more health bars, like Chimeras, Griffins, and Dragons.
