Dragon's Dogma 2 is an expansive action-adventure RPG that puts players in the shoes of the fabled Arisen as they explore the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl in search of the dragon they are fated to battle. Throughout the course of the journey, players will come face to face with a host of formidable foes in the form of creatures from mythology, from the lowly goblin all the way to the fierce Griffin, all presenting their own unique challenges to the Arisen.

One such beast of mythology that is included in Dragon's Dogma 2 is the Harpy, which can be a nuisance to players, particularly those not using a vocation with ranged attacks. DD2 fans that are checking off all in-game objectives available will need to get up close and personal with one of these flying creatures in order to earn the achievement attached to it. This guide will show you how to summon and ride a Harpy to earn the "Harpy Joyride" trophy in Dragon's Dogma 2.

How To Complete "Harpy Joyride" Achievement in Dragon's Dogma 2

In order to complete the "Harpy Joyride" objective in Dragon's Dogma 2, players will need to summon a Harpy to their location and grab it, which will beckon the beast to take them on a chaotic flight. Here are the steps involved in achieving this:

  • Acquire a Harpysnare Smoke Beacon.
  • Go to the game's Items menu, select the Harpysnare Smoke Beacon, and select Use.
  • Your character will dispatch the beacon, causing a blue smoke that will attract any nearby Harpies.
  • Once a Harpy approaches the beacon, run towards it, jump and grab (R2/RT) them.

Once you have grabbed the Harpy, the "Harpy Joyride" achievement will be unlocked, and you will be able to control the creature as it awkwardly maneuvers through the air with you at its feet. The flight isn't a sustainable mode of transport, but it can be useful for getting to high places if players don't have the Mage vocation's Levitate ability.

How To Get A Harpysnare Smoke Beacon

A crucial element of summoning a Harpy is the Harpysnare Smoke Beacon, which is a fairly uncommon item in Dragon's Dogma 2. This resource can be acquired through random drops from certain creatures throughout your journey, so you may happen across one coincidentally, but there is a vendor who is a reliable source of the item.

The best way to ensure you have a Harpysnare Smoke Beacon is to visit the vendor named Montgomery, who can be found in the Borderwatch Outpost. This is the first settlement you reach in the introduction to the game and is north of Melve. The easiest way to get there is to take the northern oxcart from Vernworth to Melve, then complete the journey on foot, as it is a short distance from Melve.

Montgomery can be found on the left side as players approach Borderwatch Outpost from the bridge side of the settlement. A Harpysnare Smoke Beacon is available in his shop for 3,000 G, and there is only one in stock. Should he not have it in stock when you visit, simply sit on the bench behind him to pass the time and come back after at least one day to see if he has it again.
