How to Dodge

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, there is no dodge mechanism built into the game, which means that you have to be very strategic in the battle. However, in Thief Vocation, you have an ability called Swift Step that allows you to dodge attacks.

To dodge an attack in Thief Vocation, executing a dodge requires a simple button press: R1 for PlayStation or RB for Xbox.

Keep in mind that this is the only dodge mechanic that Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers to the players and works only if you select Thief Vocation.

For the remaining Vocations, you can not use these mechanics, and you will need to rely on a range of skills and abilities to dodge attacks. Among these skills are dash and hit, which you can use to make your characters quickly move around before hitting enemies. Although you can move out of the range of your enemy's attack with this ability, you will still bear some damage. While not taking any damage is ideal, reducing the amount of damage you take is preferable to the alternative.

Through the dash and hit mechanism, you can strategize your moves accordingly to dodge attacks while hitting your enemy. For example, in Mystic Spearhands, using Skiedragoun’s Feste will allow you to get up in the air before the attack, hence allowing you to dodge attacks if you are crowded among your enemies.

Lastly, if you are skilled enough, then you can also block strikes with the help of your weapon. Through this, you can not only avoid attack, but this also creates an opportunity for a counterattack. However, you will need to be skilled enough in the game if you want to ward off coming attacks as the timing can be tricky.

As mentioned earlier, the ability to dodge attacks is only available for the Thief Vocation. Unfortunately, other Vocations don't have this ability, so players must rely on alternative mechanics to evade attacks effectively.
