Summary

  • The Warrior Vocation in DD2 has great tankiness and damage, making every swing satisfying and impactful for players.
  • The Lifetaker Greatsword is a solid mid-game weapon, but there are stronger end-game options available for players in DD2.
  • Dragon's Flight is the top weapon in DD2, offering the highest damage and knockdown power for players looking for ultimate strength.

The Warrior Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 is one that players seem to be incredibly happy with (ourselves included). This Vocation is incredibly tanky, does tons of damage per swing, and the impact of each hit is so absolutely satisfying.

DD2 Best Bows Featured
Dragon's Dogma 2: Best Bows, Ranked

For Archers in Dragon's Dogma 2, these are the best weapons to have in your arsenal.

The Warrior also has a relatively large selection of two-handed weapons to use as well, from Greatswords to Hammers. While there could be more (especially compared to the first game) the current selection is pretty great. So, let's take a look at Greatswords in particular in Dragon's Dogma 2, and see which ones are the absolute best.

Found in Trevo Mine. Afterward can be purchased from Rodrick's Smithy for 1600 Gold.

Obviously, the Two-Hander would be at the bottom of the rankings, given that it's the sort of 'tutorial' Greatsword players are given a quest to find to unlock the Warrior Vocation in the first place. While its design is basic, the Two-Hander has a very aesthetically pleasing look to it. However, as soon as players can switch to another Greatsword, they should, as the damage output and Knockdown Power of this weapon is pretty low.

8 War Blade

Rodrick's (Vernworth) or Awaran's Smithy (Bakbattahl) for 15,400 Gold.

Next up is the War Blade, a weapon players can find either in Vernworth or in Bakbattahl at the Smithies. This Weapon is a pretty decent upgrade to the Two-Hander, but it's still leaps and bounds weaker than most of the other Greatsword options.

Mage Skills featured
Dragon's Dogma 2: Best Mage Weapon Skills, Ranked

Players will want to prioritize the following Mage Weapon Skills in Dragon's Dogma 2 to make the most out of their Vocation.

While it does have a very unique look with the hammer-like apparatus on the blade's end, this doesn't actually add any sort of 'extra effect' to the weapon.

Celeste's Smith (Checkpoint Rest Town) for 17,000 Gold. Additionally can get it as a reward for Beren's Final Lesson quest, found in the Collapsed Mine Cave, or has a very small chance to be dropped by Skeleton Lords

Moving on to the obvious Berserk reference weapon, it's the Lifetaker Greatsword. The weapon can be dropped by Skeleton Lords or found in the Collapsed Mine, but typically players will get this weapon as the final reward from Beren for his Final Lesson (alongside the Arc of Might Meister Skill).

In general, this weapon should carry players through the early to mid-game of Dragon's Dogma 2. However, in the late game and especially in the post-game area, there are much stronger options.

6 Flamberge

A Historical Classic & a Strong Weapon Overall

Celeste's (Checkpoint Rest Town) or Awaran's Smithy (Bakbattahl) for 24,800 Gold. Also has a chance to drop from Skeleton Lords or Lost Mercenaries

The Flameberge is a pretty well-known weapon, both in its video game appearances and its historical appearances. And, players can actually obtain this weapon in Dragon's Dogma 2 relatively easily. They can either buy the Flameberge from the Smithies in the Checkpoint Rest Town/Bakbattahl or they can loot it from Skeleton Lords or Bandits (though the drop chance is relatively low).

Overall, the Flamberge is probably the weapon most 'in the middle' between the best end-game swords and the worst early-game swords. Depending on when players start using it, this weapon can feel like it absolutely shreds health bars or it can feel a bit weak.

5 Ogresbane

Hard to Tell If It Really is the 'Bane' of Ogres, But Still a Fantastic Weapon

Dropped by a bandit in the Eremitic Sanctuary. Additionally has a decent chance to drop from either Grim Orgres or Lost Mercenaries

Moving on to another very 'Guts-like' weapon, the Ogresbane. This weapon was quite literally forged to kill Ogres (as a wealthy merchant had it crafted to likely hunt down the Ogre that killed his kin). However, it's not entirely clear yet if this weapon actually does additional damage to Ogres. In the previous game, weapon descriptions would hint at hidden effects certain weapons had (and this system seems to have returned in DD2) and the Ogresbane does imply that it should deal extra damage to Ogres.

This is by far one of the best Greatswords in the game in terms of visuals, but statistically, it is pretty heavily beaten out by late-game options. That said, with proper Enhancements, players can pretty much use any weapon in this game and get by okay (except for maybe the Two-Hander).

4 Gryphic Victory

The Mid-Game Best-in-Slot Option

Dragon's Dogma 2 - Arisen Charging Up Big Attack On Downed Griffon With Gryphic Victory

Gryphic Victory

Awaran's Smithy (Bakbattahl) for 36,600 Gold

The Gryphic Victory is a bit of an odd weapon because it looks so absolutely normal compared to all the other Greatswords of similar strength to it. That said, there are plenty of players who would much prefer a simplistic or more 'realistic' Greatsword design over an overly complicated one.

In any case, the Gryphic Victory is probably the best mid-game Greatsword to use. In fact, it can even carry players through the game entirely. But, once players enter the Unmoored World (if they choose to enter it), they'll most likely want to switch to one of the stronger Greatsword options.

3 Wounded Heart

Arguably the Best Looking Greatsword of Them All

Dragon's Dogma 2 - Arisen Using Spinning Attack With Wounded Heart

Name

Slash/Strike Strength

How To Get It

Wounded Heart

Pre-Endgame can be bought from Volcanic Island Armor, Gautstafr (after his questline), or Brokkr's Smithy (Bakbattahl) for 48,000 Gold. In the Endgame area can be bought at Rodrick's, Grisha's, Celeste's, or Awaran's Smithy.

The Wounded Heart is one of the first weapons on here that players won't be able to get until they reach the final new 'area' of the game or after they enter the Unmoored World. The Wounded Heart also seems to be one of the weapons the player base seems to prefer the visuals of the most, so it's pretty popular.

The top two Greatswords on here do have it pretty undeniably beat in terms of damage and Knockdown Power, but not so much that a player who really loves the Wounded Heart will feel the need to abandon their favorite weapon.

2 Dragon's Bite

The Very Last Greatsword You'll Probably Unlock

Dragon's Dogma 2 - Arisen Air Attack With Dragon's Bite

Dragon's Bite

Purchase from Dragonforged (Endgame only) for 110 Wyrmslife Crystals

When it comes to the final two Greatswords on here, it really depends on each individual player for which they find to be their first or second place. However, the Dragon's Bite and Dragon's Flight are absolutely the top two options in Dragon's Dogma 2. The odd thing about the Dragon's Bite is that it's actually harder to get than the Dragon's Flight as it requires spending 110 Wyrmslife Crystals at the Dragonforged while the Dragon's Flight can simply be bought (in the endgame only) with basic currency.

While the Dragon's Flight does have better Knockdown Power and damage (depending on Enhancements) than the Dragon's Bite, the Dragon's Bite is one of the rare few weapons in the game with a known 'unique passive'. Essentially, the lower the player's health is, the more damage this weapon does, which is why it can technically beat the Dragon's Flight, though only in specific circumstances.

1 Dragon's Flight

Easier to Obtain Than the Dragon's Bite, But Somehow Still Better

Dragon's Dogma 2 - Arisen Big Swing With Dragon's Flight

Dragon's Flight

Any Smithy (Endgame only) for 55,000 Gold

And for the first-place pick in Dragon's Dogma 2, it's the Dragon's Flight. It's a little difficult to realistically call this weapon a 'Greatsword', but that's how it's labeled in-game so we'll go with it.

In any case, the Dragon's Flight Greatsword has the highest potential damage, the highest potential knockdown power, and is one of the most unique-looking weapons in the game. So, it's pretty clear why it'd be first on this list. There's not much more to say about this weapon, it's simply incredibly strong especially if players take it into NG+.
