Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined was announced at the latest Nintendo Direct, showcasing a fully-fledged remake of the popular entry in the Japanese role-playing franchise. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined will mix the classic gameplay of the original title with modern graphics, voice acting, and an updated storyline.
Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past was released in 2000 for the PlayStation, and later received a Nintendo 3DS port in 2013, and a mobile version in 2015, which was solely available in Japan. Dragon Quest 7 was a very successful game, selling over 4 million units in less than a year. DQ7 is considered by some fans to be one of the best Dragon Quest games ever made.

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Release Date
- February 5, 2026.
The upcoming Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined will be released on February 5, 2026, and it will retell the story of the original RPG, which has been “enhanced to provide a more streamlined story experience.” The trailer showcased the incredible new graphics and showed some glimpses of exploration and combat, which still seem similar to the original. While it has been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 during the event, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined will also be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
It’s not entirely surprising to see the announcement of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. Earlier this year, rumors indicated that Square Enix could be working on a Dragon Quest 7 remake. At the time, a leaker looked at internal documents from the publisher and said that the game was expected to be out between January and March 2025.
At the moment, it’s too early to tell if Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined will be as popular as the original, but there are indications that it will fare well. The recent Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake was a huge hit, surpassing two million copies sold. The success surprised Square Enix, which reportedly had lower expectations for the project.
Before gamers can play the revamped version of Dragon Quest 7, though, they will have the chance to go through the whole original trilogy. Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake will be released on October 30, completing the origin story of the franchise. Recent years have certainly been a remarkable time for fans of the Square Enix franchise, and fans will have plenty of remakes to keep themselves occupied while they wait for more information regarding the eagerly awaited Dragon Quest 12.
