Square Enix has revealed the difficulty settings and performance modes that are included in the PS5 version of the upcoming Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. This game is a reimagining of the classic Square RPG, done in the same style of Team Asano's HD-2D games like Octopath Traveler. After years of no news, Square Enix finally gave eager fans more information on Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake at the June 2024 Nintendo Direct with a brand-new gameplay trailer which featured a number of classic elements redone from the ground up.

Square Enix also confirmed that Dragon Quest 1 and 2 would also be remade in the same style, though packaged together as one game. Fans were also given the release dates in this trailer, with Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D launching November 2024, while the remakes of DQ1 and 2 will launch the following year. In anticipation of the game's release after a lengthy drought of updates, Square Enix has given fans some more information about its gameplay features, such as the performance modes and difficulty settings.

In a report by Game*Spark (translated by Automaton), it confirms that the PS5 version of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will have both a Graphics Priority and Performance Priority mode, with the former focusing on rendering the game's 2D pixel art and 3D backgrounds, while performance prioritizes the game's frame rate. These modes are standard in most PS5 games, giving players the chance to choose between looking at the game's most beautiful presentation or having the game run consistently at a certain frame rate.
