While exploring Alefgard in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, players will occasionally encounter swamp tiles. These tiles are purple, and the Hero takes a small amount of damage as he walks over them. It is possible to walk across poison tiles in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake without taking damage, though, and this guide is here to explain how that is done.
How to Walk Over Purple Tiles Without Taking Damage in Dragon Quest 1 Remake
Safe Passage Spell
Players can pass over purple tiles without getting hurt by using the Safe Passage spell. Players can find the scroll that is used to learn this spell in Galenholm, a town that is visited early in Dragon Quest 1's story. Specifically, players should enter the house in the southwest corner and interact with the bookshelf to claim the Safe Passage scroll.
After obtaining the scroll, locate it within your Item Bag and use it to learn the Safe Passage spell. You can then use Safe Passage from the Spells section of the menu to walk across poison unharmed.
Erdrick's Armour
Alternatively, Dragon Quest players can find and equip Erdrick's Armour. Indeed, this powerful piece of equipment prevents the wearer from being damaged by swamps or electrified tiles, and it also restores a small amount of HP with every step taken and reduces the damage taken from spells and breath attacks. The following section details how to obtain Erdrick's Armour, though players who want to keep spoilers to a minimum may want to skip reading it for the time being.
How to Get Erdrick's Armour in Dragon Quest 1 Remake
Beat the Knight Aberrant
Players can get Erdrick's Armour by beating the Knight Aberrant, a powerful foe that can be found within Damdara. For the uninitiated, Damdara is situated in the southwest corner of Alefgard, between the Faerie Village and the Citadel of the Monarch of Medals, and its position has been marked on the preceding map. Upon arriving at Damdara, players must make their way to a small alcove in its center, just past some swamp tiles, to initiate the fight with the Knight Aberrant.
With respect to defeating the Knight Aberrant, there are several ways to approach this fight, and here is a method that players can try:
- Get Dragon Quest's Hero to Level 30+ before initiating the fight.
- Make sure your equipment is current. This means having things like the Siren Sword, Dragon Shield, Phantom Mask, and Dragon Mail.
- Use the Dodgy Dance ability first thing. Keep refreshing this ability throughout the fight so that its effect is always active.
- Prioritize healing, making sure to stay above 210 HP. When you are under the effects of the Knight Aberrant's defense debuff, you should stay above 275 HP. Dragon Quest 1's Moreheal spell is extremely helpful here.
- Chip away at the enemy's health with standard Attacks.
While the above strategy is definitely effective, it may still take several attempts to defeat the Knight Aberrant, as the foe is capable of putting together some nasty sequences. Once the knight has been slain, interact with the glow spot that appears to claim Erdrick's Armour.
