Summary

  • Broly's Full Powered Super Saiyan form is powerful but may not be as strong as other characters' ultimate forms.
  • Ultra Ego, a Divine Technique suited for brawlers like Vegeta and Broly, focuses on offense over defense.
  • Broly's unique path to power should involve mastering his Full Powered Super Saiyan form rather than using a Divine Technique.

One of the most beloved aspects of the Dragon Ball Super franchise is the unique path that each of the main characters has taken to become more powerful. Instead of taking a page from what the series has done before with the numbered Super Saiyan forms, Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Broly, and Piccolo have all reached the same level of strength with incredibly powerful transformations that are unique to just them.

This was an amazing decision by the writers of Dragon Ball Super. Broly's transformation is the Full Powered Super Saiyan form, which is essentially just his power in the Legendary Super Saiyan state but controlled, allowing him to make full use of his incredible potential. Some fans believe that, while exceptionally strong, it's not quite as strong as Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan's ultimate forms, so let's see if Broly may use a Divine Technique.

Which Divine Technique Would Be The Best Fit For Him?

The Techniques Used By Angels And Destroyers

Ultra Instinct Debut

Dragon Ball Super, Episode 110, "Goku Enkindled! The Awakened One's New Ultra Instinct!"

Ultra Ego Debut

Dragon Ball Super, Chapter 74, "Vegeta vs. Granolah"

  • Ultra Ego suits Broly and his overall fighting style better than Ultra Instinct.

There are two known Divine Techniques that are used by the Angels and Destroyer Gods of the multiverse. The first of these is Ultra Instinct; the signature technique of the Angels which can only be awoken once a person completely achieves harmony between their body and mind, placing them into a trance-like state where their body avoids harm on its own. By using Ultra Instinct, the user can then place all of their focus on offense since defense is already covered by the body itself.

On the other hand, there is the Energy of Destruction that is unique to the Destroyer Gods of the multiverse, which allows them to erase entire planets with minimal effort. To house this incredible power, Vegeta unlocked his Ultra Ego form, which acts quite like the opposite of Ultra Instinct because it prioritizes taking damage, since doing so makes the user's next attack even more powerful. Ultra Ego takes all the damage that the user receives and covnerts it into power that they can use against their opponents.

So, out of these two Divine Techniques, which one is the better fit for Broly? The quite apparent answer here is that if Broly were to use one of these Divine Techniques, Ultra Ego would suit him and his fighting style far better than Ultra Instinct would. The main reason for this is because, just like Vegeta, Broly is a brawler who seeks to deal damage and focus all of his might on offense over anything else.

Judging by his imposing fighting style, he doesn't place an overwhelming amount of focus on defending himself, seeking to damage his opponents as much as possible. This outright makes Ultra Ego the perfect fit for him. The primary prerequisite of Ultra Instinct is for the user to have a calm body and mind and to be in a state of peace and focus. As seen in the manga, Broly has a tough time getting a hold of his power enough for him to do this, and while he has done so recently, the level of focus needed for this technique is a completely different ballgame.

Why Broly Doesn't Need Either Of The Divine Techniques

He's On His Own Path To Power

  • Despite Ultra Ego being a good match for Broly, he shouldn't use any power other than his own.

As stated previously, one of the biggest positives of the current Dragon Ball Super story is the fact that the main heroes have all reached the highest level of strength through their own means and transformations. Not only is this a great thing in terms of how they approach a combat scenario, but also for each of their character arcs, as it would show them tackle the world in unique ways that only they can.

In terms of the conversation about which Divine Technique would suit him better, Ultra Ego is undoubtedly the correct answer due to the brawler that Broly is as it would make full use of his tanking nature, unparalleled strength, and offensive might. However, the truth of the matter is that he shouldn't ever have a form like that, and he should only grow even stronger through training and mastering his own powers. The strength of his Full Powered Super Saiyan form is great, so what he needs to do now is master it.

Power comes in response to a need, not a desire. You have to create that need.

Despite his incredible strength in this state, his lack of time having used this power was quite apparent in his spar with Beast Gohan. Here, he was able to stand up to Gohan's strongest form but his inexperience showed as Gohan was able to take advantage of him multiple times. Still, though, their strength is comparable and on the same level, even if it's not exactly the same.

Everything regarding the strength of Broly in the future of the series relies on how proficient he is with his new powers since this is what he would be most comfortable with using and what he would know best as his own path to power. Same as how Vegeta couldn't unlock Ultra Instinct due to it being at odds with the kind of warrior he is, the same goes for Broly, who doesn't need a Divine Transformation to be one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
