Dragon Ball: Super's Return Can Make Or Break The Series

Dragon Ball Super's return is eagerly anticipated by fans, but here's how it can either be the best or worst thing to happen to the franchise!

Toyotaro usually leaves a message for readers on the final pages of each volume, and this time it was no different. In his message, he explained more about the origin story of Saiyamen X and shared that it was originally an idea that Akira Toriyama had written in some notes that he had handed to him.

However, what quickly caught the attention of fans was that he ended the message by asking readers to stay tuned for news about the manga, confirming he intends to resume the serialization at some point. Unfortunately, he didn't give any release window for Chapter 205.

At least, it's good to know that the manga is still in serialization, and it hasn't been canceled. Toriyama had probably given Toyotaro a good idea of what he had in mind for the story, but Toyotaro may be having a hard time putting it all together on his own — Toriyama reviewed Toyotaro's storyboards and changed anything he thought that didn't fit with what he had in mind for Super.

Dragon Ball Super Is About To Start A New Arc

Chapter 203 concluded the Super Hero Saga, and even felt like a bittersweet farewell to the series — some fans even wondered if DB Super would end right there, since the chapter was out a few weeks following the news of Toriyama's death. The series then went on an indefinite hiatus.

Back in February, Chapter 204 was released — it is a special story showing how Goten and Trunks became Saiyamen X before the Super Hero Saga began. While fans hoped that this would mean that Super would resume regular serialization, the series went back on a break.

With his message, Toyotaro confirmed that the Super Hero Saga is indeed over, and that the next chapter will begin a new arc. Some fans speculate that Black Frieza will appear in the upcoming arc, since he is on the back cover of Volume 24, but that could just be a design choice unrelated to the plot.

Since the cover shows Vegeta, Goku, Gohan and Piccolo in their most powerful forms, putting Black Frieza on the back cover fits in with the vibes of the cover. So it could have nothing to do with the next arc.

While Dragon Ball Super chapters are added to MANGA Plus in English simultaneously with the Japanese release, it takes more time for VIZ Media to publish the volumes in the US. So far, no release date has been announced for the English version of Volume 24.

However, it will probably be out in late 2025 or at the beginning of 2026. Volume 23 will be released later this month, so VIZ Media will likely announce Volume 24 in the upcoming weeks.

Dragon Ball Super (anime) is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
