The following article contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Daima.
Dragon Ball Super is still on hiatus, but fans keep hoping that good news will emerge in the near future. Dragon Ball Super has set the stage for a potential Black Frieza arc, which could even begin as soon as the series returns to its regular serialization.
Fans expect Frieza to be a formidable foe and the Z-Fighters to have a lot of trouble before finally beating him for good. While many Super fans have issues with Dragon Ball Daima, the series introduced something that would be of great help in the upcoming Black Frieza arc: Medi Bugs.
Dragon Ball: The Only Way The Black Frieza Arc Can Work
The Black Frieza arc is the most hyped one that fans want to see upon the return of Super, so here's the only way it can work!
What Should the Black Frieza Arc Be Like?
Black Frieza is probably the most anticipated enemy in Dragon Ball Super. Since his introduction in the Granolah arc, fans have been eagerly waiting to see him in action. V-JUMP created even more anticipation by establishing that Black Frieza is so powerful that it can't even be measured.
For this reason, the Black Frieza arc should be one of the most challenging moments in all Dragon Ball arcs. Fans expect no less than one of the most memorable arcs, just like the original Frieza arc in Dragon Ball Z. However, there is still no information regarding when this arc might start: many speculate that Dragon Ball Super will return from hiatus with the Black Frieza arc, but Toyotaro could follow a different direction. Technically, the Black Frieza arc hasn't been officially confirmed to happen, but Toyotaro has teased Black Frieza so much that it seems unlikely that Dragon Ball Super would end without bringing this powerful enemy into action.
Will Black Frieza Be the Final Villain in Dragon Ball Super?
Since it isn't confirmed when the Black Frieza arc will happen, it is also still unknown if it will be the final arc in the story. However, Black Frieza is teased as such an overpowered foe that it's hard to imagine how the story could introduce another villain who would be more powerful than him, and that would also resonate with fans as much as Frieza does.
I couldn't very well keep losing to you Saiyans my whole life, so I needed a bit of a power-up. Meet Black Frieza. Achieving this form took plenty of toil, I'll have you know.
— Frieza
Black Frieza is believed to be on par with Gods of Destruction. While Dragon Ball always knows how to circumvent power-scaling issues by introducing something even bigger than anything previously known, it might feel like the series is being stretched too far. The Black Frieza arc will likely involve a high level of tension, as Frieza will definitely take advantage of his new form to conquer the universe—perhaps Cooler might finally appear in the manga.
Join Bugs Are Perfect for the Black Frieza Arc
It has already been established that Black Frieza is more powerful than the Z-Fighters at their current highest potential. Many fans expect a new power-up to be introduced, which would allow them to defeat Black Frieza (and maybe Black Cooler too). However, the series could use something introduced in Dragon Ball Daima and take a different route.
DB Daima introduced Medi Bugs, special bugs with unique abilities. Among the Medi Bugs, there are the Join Bugs, which allow up to three people to fuse. With these bugs, the Z-Fighters could defeat Frieza with new fusion combinations. One fusion that fans would definitely love to see is Vegeta, Goku, and Broly, but the possibilities are many. It would also be great to see Gohan and Piccolo fuse for once. Anyway, with Medi Bugs, Toyotaro wouldn't necessarily need to introduce a new transformation, as the fusions would allow the character to reach new levels of power.
Are DB Daima and DB Super Set in the Same Timeline?
Dragon Ball Daima is supposed to take place between the end of the Majin Buu Saga and Dragon Ball Super, according to official information released before the series aired. However, there are a few continuity inconsistencies between Daima and Super. While these are minor contradictions, they led many fans to believe that both stories could be set in separate universes. Akio Iyuko apparently teased this possibility in an interview by placing Daima as a sequel to the manga, but not mentioning Super.
However, unless new information emerges, these two series are set in the same timeline. It would be nice if they took place in different universes, as it would open many possibilities for the franchise, but the official answer for now is that Daima and Super are part of the same chronology.
