With gods, multiverses, and ultra-forms that are bigger than anything else we've seen, Dragon Ball Super took the series to new heights. In the sequel, many of the classic characters, especially those closely linked to Dragon Ball Z, were either pushed to the side or not used enough. This focus makes sense for the main story, but fans all over the world often point to familiar faces who still seem to have untapped potential and are ready for bigger roles than just cameos or background appearances.
These characters do more for the universe than just give it Saiyan power spikes and God-level changes. Some of them are martial artists who fight alongside Earth's defenders against a big threat, while others have hidden strength or emotional depth. It's a good time to bring them back into focus because a sequel is coming out soon. The sequel could either continue the story from where Super left off or introduce new threats and storylines. In order of how little people think of them, here are seven old characters that Dragon Ball Super should pay more attention to.
Dragon Ball Super: Every Main Character’s Ages And Heights
The cast of Dragon Ball Super continues to expand upon the series' mainstays. Here's what you need to know about the most important characters.
7 Tien Shinhan
Tien Shinhan used to be one of the strongest people and fighters in the Dragon Ball world. He was introduced as a rival who was very strict and good at what he did. Tien was so good at martial arts that he almost beat Goku in the World Martial Arts Tournament. He then used Tri-Beam attacks on Semi-Perfect Cell to keep the people who were fighting for Earth safe.
Tien has been in DB Super a few times, but only for short scenes or practice sessions. But both the anime and manga show that he is still important in a world full of gods and multiverse warriors because he is so good at ki, has a lot of different techniques, and is so determined. Tien fans want him to do more than just tell jokes and help out. They want him to be a real mentor and strategist who can mix old-school martial arts with new-school battles.
6 Android 18
In Cell Saga, Android 18 was one of the most dangerous foes. Dr. Gero's experiment turned her into a cyborg with unlimited Ki and monstrous power. After the Cell Saga ended and during her time spent with the Z fighters, she changed her mind and decided to become a friend and one of the strongest Z Fighters after she married Krillin. In the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super, she even fought against Universe 7's defenders.
But her home life often gets in the way of her being a good warrior, and in Super, she doesn't always get the attention she deserves. She is very strong and has been through a lot. She can easily fight strong warriors and protect her family, but the series keeps her out of the action too often. Fans want 18 to be the main character in future arcs so she can show off her energy projection, toughness, and strategic combat skills instead of just being a sidekick or babysitter.
5 Master Roshi
Master Roshi is one of the most well-known characters in Dragon Ball. He made the Kamehameha. But every new generation of the series since DBZ has had trouble fully including him. Roshi shines for a short time in Super during the Tournament of Power. He uses a Kamehameha that is powered by life energy, which ends up putting him down briefly, but Goku saves him.
People should care about Roshi for more than just the memories. He is a mentor, thinks strategically, and is willing to give up everything for his students. Roshi has watched the world change from a simple view of martial arts to a view of conflict on a cosmic scale. His experience and heart could give the story more emotional depth and even surprise power moments. Fans would love to see him teach a new generation how to use wisdom instead of power and remind the series why the original fighters were so important.
4 Pikkon
Pikkon is a one-of-a-kind character in the Dragon Ball fanbase. Although he was a very important character in Dragon Ball Z: Other World Tournament filler arc, he doesn't really have anything to do with the main story and is considered non-canon. Fans like him because he is serious, good at martial arts, and fought Goku in the afterlife. He wasn't in the original manga, but he's still very popular. Many fans wanted Toriyama to find a way to make his character canon, but sadly, that never happened, Toei could still find a way to make him canon and part of the main story.
Pikkon's calm strength and disciplined presence make him a good character for both fighting and story ideas. If Toei puts him or a character with a similar grounded warrior look in Super's sequel, the cast could be more diverse than just Saiyan transcendence. Fans would love to see him fight gods from both the past and the present. This would link the old martial arts with the new power scaling that comes after DB Super.
8 Best Characters Who Have Appeared In Every Dragon Ball Series, Ranked
The massive cast of Dragon Ball is constantly growing. Of the franchise's many characters, a handful have stuck around from the very beginning.
3 Majin Buu
In Dragon Ball Z, Majin Buu was introduced as the big bad final boss of the series, the strongest of the strongest creatures. He later becomes a comic sidekick that is popular with the fans but lacks any real character development. His abilities are very interesting: he can be brought to life even out of a small fragment; it is almost impossible to kill him forever. You can never tell what trouble he will bring. One minute he is screaming at his enemies; the next minute he is like a child. Although he was part of a major arc in Super, he ended up sleeping through it.
It is believed that the power of Buu goes to waste when he transforms or ventures into other mischiefs. He could also be brought out as the lead character again, just in a different story where he rescues the world using his healing powers or the likes. It appears that he has delayed taking more challenging and significant challenges. Actually, a sequel story that places him in the limelight would probably bring immense joy to many who wish the show to recall how terrifying he was once.
2 Uub
Uub is intriguing because he resembles Kid Buu, but he is different because he has a kind heart. He stands for hope or something similar, a new beginning for those who protect the planet. Goku's next pupil at the end of DBZ is a youngster with great potential. Super doesn't appear frequently, though, because his timeline makes things difficult. When he does, it's either for a brief period of time or never.
Dragon Ball: 7 Characters Who Could Lead Their Own Series
Dragon Ball will always be Goku's story, but these characters deserve the spotlight just as much.
Because they believe that Uub's relationship with Buu and his secret power could result in intriguing character development, fans are eager for him to take the lead. Goku and Vegeta could work out together. This would establish a connection between the past and the future. If used right, his narrative could really well fit into the main storyline and pay tribute to the past.
1 Tarble
A character with immense potential that really needs to make a comeback would definitely be Vegeta's younger brother, Tarble. A character so shrouded in mystery; how is he so different from Vegeta? Why did he never visit the Earth before? Why didn't he want to meet his brother even though he admired him? It's strange yet an intriguing plot point that Tarble is Vegeta's younger brother because most pure-blooded Saiyans are bloodthirsty and hunger for battle, yet he is a kind one.
Although he is considered a canon character, he has only made appearances in Dragon Ball's OVAs or manga specials. Not only is he Vegeta's brother, but he also alters the behavior of Saiyans, so people have always wanted more from him. Super could bring his character back in a unique way for him to gain strange abilities while he was training or maintaining the peace. It would give the Saiyan story more nuance, which it occasionally lacks.
