- Dragon Ball Super is on hiatus, but V-JUMP continues to heavily market the series, suggesting it may not end soon.
Dragon Ball Super just dropped a new announcement, but despite the good news, fans are disappointed. Recently, V-JUMP editor Victory Asada stated that there would be an announcement regarding "a certain Dragon Ball project" in the next issue of the magazine. Since Dragon Ball Super has been on hiatus for months, fans hoped that the magazine would finally announce a return date.
Dragon Ball Super went on hiatus in March 2024, following the announcement of Akira Toriyama's death. Given the circumstances, it was actually no surprise that the series went on a break, as Toyotaro would understandably have trouble continuing the serialization right away without Toriyama's supervision. Last February, a special chapter was released, and fans thought that maybe the series would finally resume serialization, but that's not how it went.
Dragon Ball Super: The Black Frieza Arc Must Include This Concept from Dragon Ball Daima
The Black Frieza arc is set to be one of the most memorable moments in Dragon Ball Super, but it should incorporate this concept introduced in Daima.
Dragon Ball Super's "Certain Project"
When Asada announced they were preparing news about a "certain project," fans thought it could be the return date they had been waiting for. However, the latest information about the next V-JUMP issue suggests that it's something entirely different. V-JUMP will feature an amazing illustration of Ultra Instinct Goku and Beast Gohan recreating Gohan's iconic Kamehameha at the end of the Cell Saga. The project involves turning the illustration into a figure. More information will be available in the magazine.
Information about a certain project will also be announced in this issue. You'll just have to read V-JUMP for yourself to find out the details.
— Victory Asada
While it will definitely be an amazing figure, fans are disappointed because they were expecting something about DB Super's hiatus. There's still a chance that Toyotaro will announce something at Japan Expo Paris in early July, but many fans now wonder if the series will be canceled.
Is Dragon Ball Super Canceled?
While fans are worried that the series will be canceled, Toyotaro recently gave an interview where he t eased the Black Frieza arc, suggesting he's still developing the story. It is unclear why the hiatus has been so long, but it could be related to behind-the-scenes issues we're unlikely to hear about, including potential problems due to the reported litigation for the rights to Dragon Ball. V-JUMP also still heavily markets the series, even if it is on hiatus, suggesting that they don't plan to end it so soon.
It is unlikely that Shueisha would simply drop such a successful series from a popular franchise, but Toyotaro could still be struggling to write the next arcs. Unfortunately, fans can only wait for new information, but despite the long hiatus, Dragon Ball Super has not been canceled, at least for now.
Dragon Ball Super is available to read on MANGA Plus in English and Spanish. So far, 204 chapters have been published.
