The following article contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super.
Dragon Ball Super fans are worried that the hiatus has lasted for too long, but Toyotaro has already given many hints that the series will eventually return. It may take a few months, but it's unlikely Shueisha would simply cancel the series, especially considering that Dragon Ball Super is one of V-JUMP's flagship titles.
The most awaited arc of the story is by far the Black Frieza arc. While most fans might be looking forward to Vegeta and Goku's actions in this arc, it could be the perfect time to give Piccolo some spotlight, as he also has many unsolved issues with Frieza and is currently as strong as his Saiyan peers.
Dragon Ball: How Super's Return Can Break The Internet
The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on a hiatus for quite a while now, but here's how its return can end up breaking the internet!
How Frieza Turned Into Black Frieza?
Black Frieza was introduced in Dragon Ball Super during the Granolah arc. It is the strongest form Frieza has ever achieved. Toyotaro stated that he chose the color black because black cards have more value than gold cards, so only a Black Frieza could be stronger than Golden Frieza. According to Frieza himself, he spent years training in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber he found on a planet he conquered. Apart from this, there isn't much explanation about Black Frieza yet.
I couldn't very well keep losing to you Saiyans my whole life, so I needed a bit of a power-up. Meet Black Frieza. Achieving this form took plenty of toil, I'll have you know.
— Frieza
It has been confirmed that Black Frieza is currently stronger than any of the Z-Fighters. A V-JUMP issue even stated that Black Frieza is so powerful that it cannot be measured. Even though Black Frieza appeared for only a short time, it was enough to excite fans about an arc with him as the main antagonist. After all, Frieza will definitely try to conquer the universe with his new transformation.
Is the Black Frieza Arc Confirmed?
The Black Frieza arc hasn't been officially confirmed, but it's been heavily teased in the story and by Toyotaro. In a recent interview, Toyotaro mentioned that not much is known about Black Frieza, leading fans to believe that he is working on this arc. Additionally, at JUMP FESTA '25 in December 2024, Toyotaro revealed a new illustration of Black Frieza.
All of this makes fans believe that Black Frieza will be the next arc in Dragon Ball Super. However, fans also believe Black Frieza will be the final villain of the manga, so the story could be finally heading towards its ending.
Will Piccolo Finally Avenge the Destruction of Namek?
Toyotaro has confirmed that Orange Piccolo is at the same level of power as Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, and Beast Gohan. Additionally, the cover of Dragon Ball Super Volume 24 suggests that these characters might play a major role in the next arc.
The Black Frieza arc would be the perfect moment to explore Piccolo and allow him to avenge, or at least attempt to avenge, the destruction of Namek. There could even be dramatic moments where both Piccolo and Vegeta seek revenge for the destruction of their home planets. There are many ways to explore Piccolo in this arc, as he has many reasons to want to destroy Frieza once and for all.
Will Black Frieza Be the Final Antagonist?
As mentioned, there is a good chance that Black Frieza will be the final antagonist in the series. In fact, it's hard to imagine an antagonist stronger than Black Frieza who could generate as much hype among fans. Defeating the greatest and most evil conqueror in the Dragon Ball universe would make for the perfect ending to Dragon Ball Super.
However, they could come up with another antagonist after him. One possibility is introducing Cooler, but Toyotaro could bring in any villain, whether an old foe or a new one. Everything depends on what Toyotaro has already planned for the story.
