Summary
- Dragon Ball Super manga will celebrate its 10th anniversary in June 2025, but it will be a major disappointment for fans.
- Unfortunately, though, the anniversary may only feature celebratory illustrations, with no major announcements.
- Black Frieza could be the focus of the next potential story arc if Dragon Ball Super returns.
Dragon Ball Super is going through a tough phase, especially after the passing of Akira Toriyama. While standalone projects like Dragon Ball Daima kept fans busy for several weeks, the community is still desperate for the continuation of DBS. Of course, fans loved seeing Vegeta and Goku exploring the demon realm as kids, but it's about time that the series makes its full-fledged return.
Ever since Toriyama's passing, news around Dragon Ball Super has often been disappointing. Now, since the series is about to complete its ten-year anniversary in June 2025, fans expect to hear some sort of good news. Unfortunately, though, the dark clouds surrounding the future of DBS aren't ready to go anywhere just yet.
Dragon Ball Super Season 2 May Be The Best Part Of The Entire Franchise
The Dragon Ball Super anime has been on an indefinite hiatus for years, but its return could be the greatest part of the franchise!
Dragon Ball Super Manga Will Celebrate Its 10th Anniversary By Being On Indefinite Hiatus
There's Still No Update On The Manga's Return
Generally, the 10th anniversary of a popular manga series is celebrated with a series of massive announcements. In the case of Dragon Ball Super, however, it's best for the community not to expect anything big. As reported by DbsHype on X, the next V-Jump Issue will feature a celebratory illustration and a new illustration from Toyotaro to celebrate the 7th anniversary of Legends. But that's the extent of it; fans shouldn't expect any major announcement on the anime or the manga's return.
After concluding the Granolah The Survivor story arc, Dragon Ball Super decided to put the story arc into reverse gear and adapt the events from the Super Hero movie . The manga concluded the Super Hero arc with Chapter 103, and while the creator teased Black Frieza as the next original arc for the series, the manga went on an indefinite hiatus right after Super Hero's conclusion. The reason for this frustrating break is the creative differences between Akio Iyoku and Shueisha. The legal battle between these two parties to take over the creative rights of Dragon Ball Super hasn't yet been resolved, and it's hard to say how long it will take for them to resolve this dispute.
Dragon Ball Super started in June 2015, and since then, it has become a massive IP spanning several standalone movies and an incredibly popular anime series from Toei. Dragon Ball fans love Super as much as they loved DBZ, so, of course, they expect to hear some news around the manga's return during the 10th anniversary celebration. Unfortunately, though, the future of Dragon Ball Super will sadly stay undecided until the rights of DBS are handed over to either party or Akio Iyoku and Shueisha come to a mutual understanding. This further means that the manga will stay on hiatus even during the time it's completing its 10-year run.
Black Frieza Could Be The Main Focus Of Dragon Ball Super Once It Returns
Frieza is one of the greatest villains of the Dragon Ball Z series. Unfortunately, he was sidelined for the majority of Dragon Ball Super's story . It was surely great and refreshing to witness Frieza fighting side by side with Goku to save Universe 7, but it would have been great for the character to embrace his villainous side. Frieza has also unveiled his powerful "Black" transformation during the Granolah story arc.
Dragon Ball Super Fans Worried About Anime's Return After Toei's Latest X Post
Will Dragon Ball Super ever return with a new season?
The antagonistic character made it evidently clear that he is now powerful enough to go against Goku's Ultra Instinct and Vegeta's Ultra Ego transformation. So, focusing on the rivalry between the Saiyans and Frieza could very well be the main focus point of the next DBS story arc. It would be against Frieza's nature not to go after Goku and Vegeta after realizing the true extent of his newly-found transformation. All being said, we can only hope for the series to return with the Black Frieza arc, but the fact of the matter is that the future of DBS still remains uncertain. It's hard to say when or if the series will make an actual comeback.
